My wife, daughter and I are coming out to Phoenix, from St. Louis area, for Christmas. I already have tickets to the Cards game against the Rams. Was wondering where a nice place to stay for the week would be. We've been on the AirBnB sites but don't know the area at all. Don't want to get stuck in a bad area. Also, I have seen parking passes on ebay, vivid seats, etc. Do I need one or can you pay to park anywhere? Any help is appreciated.

Parking pass - Get an Orange Parking pass....they cost about $30-$35, but buy one way in advance. It'll get you tailgating on the great lawn where all the action is at. I'd look on stub hub or craigslist phoenix. My friend just bought his orange parking pass on craigslist and had it mailed to him...worked out great.
Places to stay...there are 2-3 hotels by the stadium (prob expensive) but worth it...especially being family as you can walk to the game and walk to a bunch of restaurants and the area WestGate that has everything under the son.
If I was going with my kiddo I'd pay the price and stay at one of the 2 hotels next to the stadium....note if you stayed at one of those places you wouldn't need a parking pass as you can simply walk....and I'd still advise going to the great lawn 2-3 hours before the game starts.

Stay by the stadium to avoid traffic or stay in Tempe Scottsdale if you want to do other stuff while you are here. Tempe and Scottsdale are a thirty minute drive from the stadium but it's a MUCH nicer area with a LOT more stuff to do

I personally like to stay in the area of the stadium in/around game day. It's true that there may be more stuff to do in Tempe or Scottsdale in general but staying around the stadium on Sat/Sun of a game weekend is really fun. You are within walking distance to everything around and the majority of the crowd is usually football fans. There is plenty to do around the stadium to occupy several days (Cabelas, Outlet mall, multiple bars/restaurants, new Top Golf opening this year). Also, as mentioned, you don't have to deal with the game day traffic before or after. You can just pay to park at the Westgate entertainment district and not worry about parking pass or having to drive in/out of stadium.
