1a. good old #46
1b. AW (yeah I said a tie)
3. Tillman

Tillman was better than the rest of our lot. Let's face it Cecil wasn't the same after his huge hit, Booty was done when we got him, Zordich was on the downside, Waters was just a Buddy grab to teach the defense, Lassiter was stat heavy thanks to picking off a terrible QB, Lynch was a headcase, Bennett was solid but easily replaceable, Chavous (I recall we tried him at safety and corner) was a smart kid but didn't produce like he did in Minny for a small stretch, Ohalete......just yeah, Holt was a complete bust and Griffith was just damned old and his wheels were gone.

We haven't had much at the safety spot.

Lassiter was stat heavy thanks to picking off a terrible QB...

Why does everyone point out the one game where he had 4 picks (tied an NFL record) as if it was the only time he did anything? He had 24 career interceptions as a Cardinal. 1998 wasn't even his best year - that's when the 4 picks in one game happened. In 2001 he had 9 picks for the season.

He was a great tackler, forced a lot of fumbles and had key interceptions in many games that led to scores for us or essentially put the games away.

And he did that while playing for one of the worst NFL defensive coaching staffs ever assembled.

Tillman was a ballsy SOB and hard worker, but he really wasn't much better than Francisco.

I have never seen Francisco lead this team in Tackles or lay some killer hits on people, your greatly under estimating Tillman.

I have to go with Since I have followed the team since 93, So I wouldn't be able to place Tim McDonals Correctly.

1.) A. Wilson
2.)K. Lassiter
3.)Pat Tillman
4.)Tommy Bennet

I Know there was Brent Alexander, T Hoage, A Waters, Matt Darby, not mentioned

I agree with your top 3.

I once saw Eric Swann get a safety against the Giants. I was pretty good.

How can you have a best of list and not have Terence Holt on it? Remember how he almost made that one play in the Caroilna game?

Because of what happened to Pat we tend to forget that he only played four seasons for the Cards and didn't do much at all in one of them, 1999.

Oddly enough Pat's best year with the team was the teams worst year in the last 50 years, 2000. The Cards finished 3-13 but Pat was credited with 109 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an INT.

The 3-13 record in 2000 was the Cards worst since 1959.

Rolle.

Already better than Holt...and he hasn't stepped on the field. I wish Holt hadn't.

If you dont think Aaron would have started and gooten tons of tackles on that D you are kidding yourself. Tillman got a chance to get a tackle on every D play. None of the guys infront of him did anything.

I am not trying to hate on Pat by any means, I just think that people need to appreciate the person he was and stop trying to overvalue what he did on the football field.

Leonard "Hitman" Smith.

Yes, I know he never played in AZ, but who cares. That guy was awesome. And this is a pretty weak list, so it needs some spice.

At the risk of pissing off everybody here, Pat Tillman was not a particularly good player and should not be included on any list of good safeties.

No, but he did have a very good year.

"Sports Illustrated football writer Paul Zimmerman (Dr.Z) named Tillman to his 2000 NFL All-Pro team after Tillman finished with 155 tackles (120 solo), 1.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 9 pass deflections and 1 interception for 30 yards.

Tillman finished his career with totals of 331 tackles (242 solo), 2.5 sacks, 3 interceptions for 37 yards, 3 forced fumbles, 16 pass deflections, and 2 fumble recoveries in 60 career games. In addition he also had 1 rush attempt for 4 yards and returned 3 kickoffs for 33 yards."

No, not an all pro, but a solid player, and there are some scrubs on those lists up there. I do remember 2000 and he darned near won the Saints game defensively when they played him so far in the box he looked like a middle linebacker. Truth is he should have been a special teams guy who spot started at safety. But all that being said that stat line for 2000 isn't in the "bad" category at all.

I remember those days. The Cards must have been crediting tackles to 4 or 5 players on every snap. McKinnon was listed with over 200 tackles in both 1999 and 2000.

The Cards list Tillman with 224 tackles in 2000. That would give he and Wrong Gap Ron (208) 45% of the teams total tackles. The Cards were so bad that year that opponents ran 1,037 plays to the Cards 897 and scored 233 more points.

That was also the year the Cards had 86 kickoff returns!!!

I think the Cards were the only organization in America to actually experience a Y2K breakdown.

I was thinking about this tonight after someone mentioned Lorenzo Lynch in one of the other threads.

So here's my top few, any I'm missing? Mind you I'm saying AZ cardinals, so no Larry Wilson :D

1. Adrian Wilson
2. Tim McDonald
3. Tommy Bennett
4. Kwammie Lassiter
5. Terry Hoage
6. I really want to say Chuck Cecil, but he was really only good for the Packers & sucked here after the $30k fine.
7. Lorenzo Lynch

Before AZ it was Larry Wilson. As tough a guy as I ever saw. I saw him make an interception with two broken arms and cast on both.
