Dbacks need to retire his number, like yesterday.
I betcha they're waiting for him to go into the HOF. And I'll betcha, too, that if he goes in as a D'back, it will happen then.

Of course, his number belongs up next to Gonzo's (and Jackie Robinson's) in Phoenix no matter which hat goes into the Hall of Fame.

Why wait though? If we wait till he goes into the hall, then it will just look like a formality. If we do it now, it says a lot more, and I'm sure it would mean more to him. We don't have a long history, but we need to remember the guys who made this dbacks team go down in history. I was raised on that era of dbacks baseball, so all those players hold a special place in my heart.

I don't think it's up to the Diamondbacks at this point. I've heard that whenever he is ready to have it happen then it will happen.

Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall had been in regular contact with the five-time Cy Young Award winner since his retirement.
The club would like nothing more than to retire his number. Johnson sounded open to it.
"I've talked to Derrick about that," Johnson said. "When the time comes, yeah, absolutely. I've never not wanted to do it. I've just always thought the timing was more important to me.
"Like being here right now, it was the timing."
He intimated that he'd prefer to be elected to the Hall of Fame before having his number retired. He'll be eligible for induction in two years.

Oh, nice read. He's obviously a first ballot hall of famer, is there any doubt he goes in as a DBack?

I enjoyed watching Babe Ruth while I was growing up so he has to be my favorite. :>)

Did you go out drinking with him? :)

The Babe should have an asterisk next to his 60 HR's. He was on something. Booze! It makes the spread between him and all the other HR hitters of that era remarkable.

Of course, he had Gehrig hitting behind him, just as Maris had Mantle. If Ruth or Maris had been hitting cleanup instead of third, they probably wouldn't have been the ones in their lineup to hit 60 and 61.

Then, of course, there were Bonds, McGwire and Sosa. They had something else pumping them up.
