Diamondbacks Trade:
Randy Johnson
Robby Hammock

Angels Trade:
John Lackey
Casey Kotchman (AAA)
Jeff Mathis (AA)
Ervin Santana (AA)
Tim Bittner (AA)

And if the Dbacks dont think thats enough, maybe switch out McPherson for Santana, but I don't think the angels will let McPherson go.

What do you guys think?

Stoneman will not do that. McPherson has hit almost 30 dingers this year. Withou McP, they still don't bite on this deal. Did you include Hammock because he is Randy's catching buddy?

Yeah, and hes not that good anyway. Hes below average fielding and throwing wise, and hes just an average hitter for a catcher.

Ok, new trade. I schilled this one to Kevin Wheeler last night/this morning on SNR, he thought it might work out-

Randy Johnson
Robby Hammock

for

Jarrod Washburn
Troy Glaus
Jeff Mathis
Ervin Santana

You take out Glaus (injuries, contract status), and replace him with one prospoect, and that could work.

I like that idea in that we get actual talent back instead of prospects. We have enough prospects, we need some vets to fill in at the positions where we don't have a player ready. I suspect Danny will be dealt because we probably won't bable to resign him, so a power hitting RF would be good, weather we get that in that deal or not. Also, Finley will probably be gone, so we should get something for him, but Tererro should be ready for CF. He's had pretty good numbers considering he was suspended for 37 games.

With Gonzo, and I'm hoping we resign Sexson, if we can get a RF power hitter, some starting pitchers, and bullpen help we could be back in contention sooner than we all thought.

Still too much to give up for a below average cathcer and a 41 year old pitcher. Listen, the trade will be something along the lines of Ramon Ortiz, Casey Kotchman, and Jeff DaVanon for RJ. If the DBacks are lucky they'll get Figgins instead of DaVanon or Lackey instead of Ortiz but that's it. Stoneman is way too conservative to trade off his #1 starter, 40 HR 3B, and pitcher and catcher of the future for a old, 18 month rental.

Trades at the trading deadline are often not fair. They are going to have to outbid (and overpay) other teams in order to get the services of Randy Johnson.

If the Angels or any other team feel that they are in a win now situation then they are going to do everything in their power to get RJ even if it means giving up some damn good prospects.

I'm not saying someone will give this type of deal for Johnson, just that the Angels are probably not that team as their GM is one of the most conservative in the game.

I agree, HOWEVER Mr. Moreno has certainly shown he is willing to go out there and make an impact I.E. Vlad, Colon, Escobar, Guillen.

I dont doubt he wouldnt be inclined to go after RJ too.....

Moreno has done some odd stuff as GM and most of them has worked out... If he's willing to overpay for Bartolo Colon then he would overpay for RJ.

Im still saying

RJ, Hammock

for

Washburn, Glaus, Mathis, Santana

I find all this stuff very interesting. For the past several years being a starting catcher for the DBacks gives you a lifetime average playing in Phoenix about 1 year. Catcher seems to be the number 1 "get rid of me first!"
RJ may be 41 years old, but at least he wins the majority of his games if the other 8 players can hit. Look at our bullpen...they simply smell. I see us getting damaged goods, rotten goods or no goods for a trade for RJ. I say keep him...at least one day out of five is interesting.

I have absolutely no faith that Jr. will get anything of value for Randy.

I bet every contending team in baseball is lining up to get a shot at him.

What did that idiot get for Schilling? Just look at what the Dbacks have sent out in the last 3 years and compare it to what we've got back.

I just know if Randy gets dealt the Dbacks are gonna get screwed!

If the Angels said, "Take any 5 players from our minor league system you want Jr'd screw it up."

Randy will gets lots more then what we got with Schill. Schill was basically a salary dump. This is different because its halfway through a season, and a team in contention might just overpay a little bit to get an ace quality pitcher to help them through the playoffs.

Ok, heres a new one-

Randy

for

Nomar & Shoppach

A three month rental who's injury prone? No thanks.

Garagiola should suggest Shoppach, Youkilis, and Bronson Arroyo for RJ and warn Theo he's got Cashman on the other line.

I will be really disappointed if Randy goes to the Yankeees... i am hoping for the Angels but I have a sneaking feeling that a team will come out of the blue and make a deal, like the Cubs or something. Sort of like the Astros in the Beltran deal, they were never rumored to be a destination for him.

For some reason...again no logic behind what I have to say...but I wouldn't mind a package of prospects/cash and nomar g. for the big unit....

and yes folks...I'm drinking kool-aid as I type.

There's no way Nomar comes to the Valley as he will be a free agent at the end of the season and his asking price has been rumored around $15 mil per.

Nomar may be involved in the Randy deal as part of a three-way with Nomar going to _______, RJ going to Boston, and ________ sending us prospects.

And if you follow rumors, the team expected to fill in the blanks is the Chicago Cubs

I've heard the other Chicago team but I'm not sure that's realistic or very smart for the DBacks. That is unless Joe Borchard is involved, who I'm sure Colangelo & Garagiola love for his long home runs and frequent strikeouts.

What do you guys think?
It seems like the Angels would be the most likely destination for RJ if he leaves (which I doubt), but here would be my idea...

RJ
Hammock

for

Lackey
Mathis
Santana
Jenks

We get great prospects, yet dont take their two big guys (McPhereson and Kotchman), as well as a young starter to help rebuild. Dunno if the Angels would accept this deal, but if the new ownership wanted to win a WS they would.

I really don't see Stoneman doing this deal even with the Angels current 3 game losing streak. Mathis, Santana, and Jenks are three of the Top 50 prospects in all of baseball and Lackey has been their most consistent starter this year. Even when the Indians raped the Expos in the Colon trade they didn't get this loaded of a deal and this was when Colon was regarded as one of the best pitchers in baseball. The only way I could see this happening is if the DBacks took on a contract such as Tim Salmon's which I don't see them doing.

While the DBacks and their fans surely would part with Hammock, the Angels have better options in the minors and on their current roster so I don't see why they'd ask for him. If the Angels trade for RJ, they'll be lucky to get two of these top prospects...if Stoneman is still running the show. We saw how Colangelo's infatuation with Richie Sexson forced his GM into making a bad deal with Milwaukee, so perhaps the same could happen in Anaheim if Arte Moreno is obsessed with RJ finishing his career in SoCal.

As much as I want to see RJ retire as a DBack, what he could bring to this franchise could ensure long-term future success in the desert. RJ staying here only ensures short-term mediocrity. Look at the Indians, the team most in MLB have modeled themselves after. A few years ago at the first sign of slowing, they essentially gutted their veteran team in a series of trades and non-signings that now has landed them as one of the few teams poised to be a contender in the next half-decade due to their youth and payroll flexibility. I'm concerned that by letting our team get older that we'll end up like the Mariners of present. An old, overpaid team with a roster chock full of players with absolutely no value in a trade or on the field. We'll see where the team decides to go, but with Colangelo in Italy, it's looking more and more like they are going to let this team try again next year with two of their three best players in their forties. That is a very ballsy move.
