As much as I hate this guy, anyone see that incredible lateral? Amazing play and amazing awareness to do that. That is going to be on highlight reels for a long time to come.

It was a phenomenal play. The catch itself was great considering that he beat three guys to the ball.

Yeah - that was a pretty amazing catch - I couldn't believe it. I just finished watching my recording of it.

Another rememberable catch for me was about 2 seasons ago on Monday Night Football when Favre threw to Antonio Freeman. Free had fallen to the ground the ball bounced off of his back and while laying on the ground he turned over, caught it, got up and ran in for a touchdown.

I guess the difference between an amazing play - and say, Jakes' behind his back "bonehead" play - is success:D

Hard to say but anybody else think that was a designed hook and ladder? The way Moss flipped it and the way Williams was running it almost looks like that was the play called.

Amazing.

Amazing.

Being the final play of the half - it probably was a "last-ditch-effort" play - not that they needed it.

Nice play most definately!

But nothing that deserves the words phenominal or spectacular etc........ It was just what should have been done with no time on the clock. Lucky for Moss Moe Williams was smart enough to know this and come streaking down the sidelines. His catch was certainly worthy of more praise than the lateral.

Unless it was REALLY a hook and lateral play, then the lateral part was the dumbest thing he could have done...right up there with the behind the back pass. The ONLY saving grace is that it all worked out for MIN. Otherwise, we would have been laughing at him.

Fun play to watch though.

Well no even if the pitch goes out of bounds or recovered by Denver unless they score it's not a bad play because it's the last play of the half. THey couldn't stop the clock to kick a FG so that was the last play.

What made Jake's play so stupid(and remember it SHOULD have been an incomplete pass not a fumble) was it was in the first quarter of a scoreless game and there was absolutely no reason to take a risk. He should have just taken the sack.

Moss had 2 choices, go down and end the half, or lateral. I tend to think it was a planned play because on replay you can see Williams sprinting down like it's a play, but maybe he was just hustling?

I too think it was a planned play for the same reason.

We have no way of knowing if DEN could have scored if they had recovered but that is the type of play that can turn a game the other way so I believe unless it was a play called, then it was a dumb move by Moss...only it worked out this time.

The football gods shined on him but just as easily could have turned around and bit MIN hard and maybe the outcome of the game is completely different.

Agreed. I watched the game and in the context in which the play happened, Moss made a great play. The fact that he tossed the ball over his shoulder, no-look basketball style (remember Moss cotends he can ball too) as he was being tackled by three guys made it look spectacular and as if it was improvised and not planned.

Russ, just curious, how would that behind the back pass by Jake have been an incomplete pass? I thought it was the direction you threw the ball that determines if it is a forward pass attempt or a lateral-pitch type pass.

The ball went forward.

Because the ball actually went forward, and just like that little inside pitch play we used to run with Murrell, it's an incomplete pass if dropped, not a fumble. Shipp never touched it of course.

Watching it live it was hard to tell because of the angle and the nutty way Jake flipped it, but the NFL did admit later in the week that the refs had missed that call.

Doesn't mean it wasn't a horrible decision, Jake clearly didn't know it was a pass either from the way he reacted.
