Let's hope everything goes well with the Big Unit.

Randy Johnson could throw his first bullpen session as early as Friday if his rehabilitation from right knee surgery stays on course.

"He's been throwing, and his arm is strong," trainer Paul Lessard said.

A schedule for Johnson, who hasn't pitched since April 27, could be mapped out this weekend. The plan is for a return around the All-Star break.

Schilling is scheduled to have a splint taken off his broken right hand Tuesday, and he might continue his rehabilitation when the team starts another three-city trip on June 26.

Closer Matt Mantei (right shoulder weakness) could throw in the bullpen as soon as Friday after throwing from 120 feet without any pain.

Reliever Bret Prinz (groin tear) had his schedule adjusted.

Prinz will throw batting practice today and again on Monday.

Randy could be back before the All-Star break.

HOUSTON - Diamondbacks left-hander Randy John-son could return from knee surgery the week before the All-Star break if all goes well.

D'backs officials have a tentative schedule for Johnson's rehabilitation, although it could be altered after they meet with Johnson today.

Johnson threw off a modified (less inclined) mound Thursday with no trouble.

Other injury news:

* Closer Matt Mantei (neck and shoulder discomfort) hopes to throw off a mound today. Although Mantei's arm strength is good, his session may be limited by blisters on his middle and index fingers.

* Right fielder Danny Bau-tista (left hamstring) was improved Thursday, trainer Paul Lessard said, but he did not play.

* Third baseman Shea Hillenbrand (left oblique) could take batting practice by the weekend. He is working on flexibility and hitting off a tee.
