The Rangers are keeping team president and GM Chris Drury around a bit longer.
The team announced Wednesday that they've reached an agreement with Drury on a multi-year extension.
Drury, a former Rangers captain, has held the front-office position since taking over during the 2021 season.
“I'm honored to sign this extension and continue in this position with the team I grew up supporting,” Drury said in a statement. “As I said when I began this role nearly four years ago, there isn’t a more special organization in hockey and I look forward to continuing our work this offseason to help us reach our goals.”
Drury has led the Blueshirts to the postseason three times during his four years at the helm.
Last year, his club put together a franchise-best regular season and took home the Presidents' Trophy before finishing just a few wins shy of reaching the Stanley Cup Finals. This season, however, was a completely different story.
The Blueshirts underperformed mightily and Drury was forced to shake up the core with some massive mid-season trades -- they went on to miss the postseason for the first time in three years and head coach Peter Laviolette was fired at season's end.
Despite the rough campaign, owner James Dolan remains confident that Drury can get things turned around.
“I am pleased that Chris will continue to lead the Rangers hockey operations in his role,” Dolan said in a statement. “Over his tenure, Chris has shown passion for the Rangers, relentless work ethic, and a tireless pursuit of excellence. While we are all disappointed in what transpired this past season, I am confident in his ability to guide this organization to success.”
