I gave him a B.
He did do much better than I though he would as Carolina's D is pretty good and should have total screwed a young QB over.
From what I've seen on him, when pressured, he fails. His brain just stops the rational though process and he reacts, usually poorly (hence the quick picks in the Cle game and the backwards pass to LJ in the endzone last game). I though if he ever finds a way to work thur the pressure and function, he may end up a pretty good QB.
The 1st 2 series was proving my point. Then...He got used to it and maybe Car stopped blitzing just enough that he started to run the offense.
The things I like were some very nice passes in stride on ropes to the WRs. I was very happy for once to see him actually throw the ball out of bounds instead of running out of bounds for a loss (like Blake and Jake have done). I though he improved because of that. Also, the coaches took advantage of this rushing speed. Teams will have to watch some for that.
What I didn't like was on 3 step drops he didn't always throw quick like you are supposed to and because of a late throw, the D was able to knock it down.
Didn't like his decision when : Screen pass, but the target receiver was covered. So instead of throwing it at their feet or over their head out of bounds (so not to get intentional grounding), he looks downfield for a second WR and gets sacked. Hello... on a screen, all the DL are allow to go thru to the QB. If you don't throw it, you'll get killed. Dah.
I also didn't like that Carolina faked a blitz and he autiblizes out of the play, right into a play the Carolina DT was hoping for.
But, he did improve over his very poor play the weeks previous and so he should get another shot against Seattle next week. Their DT is not doing very good right now and if he can get over the beginning of the game poor decisions and improve again, maybe next week we can start to talk about how he may actually work out.
