Ravens | Team could place franchise tag on A. Thomas
Tue, 16 Jan 2007 07:59:15 -0800

Jamison Hensley, of the Baltimore Sun, reports the Baltimore Ravens are expected to place the franchise tag on LB Adalius Thomas if they cannot sign him to a new contract by next month

Card fans can forget about going after him. Bottom line is that many teams are under the cap and can put that money on keeping their top players. There will be very few good free agents available and they will be overpaid. All the more reason to put the franchise tag on L. Davis.

That's o.k. We're going after Briggs and Samuels anyway..........:D  :raccoon:

Briggs is going to get franchised also. New England will probably try and keep Samuel too. They have DB issues and he's their best one.

Bickley & MJ had a guy on from Chicago media today that said they are prepared to lose Briggs because they have so much invested in Urlacher. If that is true I cant see them paying him the average of the top 5 salaries.

everything ive heard suggests the ravens arent going to let him go. He seems more like a 3-4 guy any ways.

I think it's possible that NONE of Briggs, Thomas, Samuels and Clements hit the market. At least, I think that is far more likely than getting to look at all four. I give Briggs about a 50% chance of making it to market, Samuels and 25% and the other two less than 10.

I am almost 100% sure that Clements will be a Free Agent.

Yeah, you are right on Clements.

I'm actually hoping for Nick Harper. He's played lights out in both of the Colt's playoff games.

He will be 33 I believe come next Sept.

When is the point of diminishing returns on CB's.

Not saying we shouldnt go after him as a stop gap for a year or 2 but I hope we are not thinking long term with him.

That is a really good point on him. Personally, I'd frontload the heck out his deal and make it for three or four years with him being easy to cut after two. Samuels is probably the best of the bunch for a monster five or six year deal, but personally, I'd avoid that with ANY free agent CB if I could. That's a position that routinely disappoints in free agency.
