Allen trade? - The Sonics might be looking at trading Allen, according to a report.

The Dallas Morning News said the Sonics are considering trading Allen in the offseason because they don't think they can sign him to an extension and want to be sure they receive something in return.

Ray Allen has one year left on his contract, currently set at $14.6 million. Allen is 28 years old with a career scoring of 20.0, 44.8% 40% for 3, 4.7 rpg, and 4 assists per game. This year his scoring is up and his shooting percentages are down.

Allen has said a lot of his decision will be based on what happens with Brent Barry. He wants to know the organizaiton is going in the right direction, and would like to see Barry locked up. However, it is very unlikely the sonics give barry the 4 year deal he is looking for.

If the suns wanted to go after Allen, it would be possible. Assuming they do not sign Kobe, and don't sign anyone else, they will be able to absorb Allen's contract.

It would be hard to get the sonics to take back a couple of our prospects for Allen, but it would be possible.

Of course, I would rather have Kobe

Thanks but no thanks. Someone will max out Ray Allen, and it shouldn't be the Phoenix Suns. I think he is a maximum player but not a super max player.

Not worthy of a max deal IMO.

I'm not clear on why the Sonics think they will have a problem re-signing Allen, but if they are there are numerous teams with guys will long contracts that would take him.

I'm not sure I see Allen as being a good fit for the Suns. Marion is the only Suns player with a long term contract and the Sonics have Lewis. The Suns could give a propect and absorb Allen for one year, but then the Suns would face the same issues the Sonics are in terms of re-signing him.

Right now, Allen would fit best on a team that is really close to getting a championship or wanted to change direction. For example, Seatle could offer Allen and Daniels to the Kings for Webber if he appears to be healthy. This only happens if the Kings decide they want to go a different direction and get out of Webber's contract while Webber would make Seattle a playoff threat. I'm not predicting such a trade, just saying that this is what I think the Sonics are looking for.

I'm not sure any team is going to want to give Ray Allen a maximum contract that will have him making $20 million + at age 35. He hasn't been the healthiest player so far in his career.
