What route tree is this? Edmonds was the checkdown king. All he did was run 6 yards, turn around and wait for the checkdown. Hence his career average of 7.2 yards per reception which is low for a RB. David Johnson averaged 11-12 during his peak years here and Williams averaged 9.6 YPR last year.

I like Edmonds. He's a good player but he didn't do anything for us in the pass game except 5 yard checkdowns. When did Edmonds ever do this?

I consider Williams a complete running back
He is a guy that can be used in third and goal
He is a three downs rb
He is effective in the passing game, which is important for KK offense

Btw Edmonds yards for catch Were not impressive, not cause of him but for the stubbornness of KK insisting throwing the football behind the line of scrimmage after a second from the snap, which rarely works
I see Mahomes making the screen passes but after moving around the pocket, gaining more seconds and making the defenses more vulnerable

Edmonds played 20% of his snaps in the slot and 9% on the outside last year.

Williams is nice depth, give the starter a rest type of back. He is certainly not the same type of RB Edmonds was. It would be more like adding another Conner to the RB room. Their YPC are almost the same. Certainly not a game changer.

My guess is he has a take it or leave it offer on the table from the Cardinals. The Cardinals won't get super aggressive with a guy like Williams until they see how the draft goes. If they don't find a running back in the draft that could fill the role they have for him, then maybe they switch up their offer and pursue in a little bit harder.

Doubt it. (IMO)

RBs in the secondary and tertiary market are desperate to find homes before the draft. Opportunities and income much beyond the minimum wage are hard to come by after that date.

This. If you're a RB still on the market come draft time your likely not getting a job unless someone gets injured.

I think Fournette got similar, maybe less, than Conner. He's better too. I would've have pursued him. I'd also look into trading for Barkley.

IDK. Conner is 6'2", Williams is 5'11", and Eno is 5'9". The fact that they are actively looking at other running backs leads one to believe they are not comfortable promoting from within the ranks or are looking for a different type of back.

Or are just looking at depth. It's a smart play if the money is right.

I think it is a good idea for your players to win their spots vs being given them. Darrell Williams is not much competition and if they can't beat him out, they probably aren't long for the league.

That’s why I said “carry.”

I wasn't correcting your post, I was adding to it.

The point of your post seemed to be that their numbers are NOT similar, since Williams' yards per carry are lower. But a big part of Edmonds' value was as a pass catching back, and Williams' yards per CATCH are significantly better. So in that context, their numbers ARE overall similar, or perhaps favor Williams.

See… I think this is another example of the type of misrepresentation of the past I mentioned in the other thread that is continually leading to flame wars and attacks.

I remember most people thinking it was an okay to solid signing and the board was generally in agreement that it shored up our depth in the running backs room.

And after finding the thread, that’s pretty much what I found:

Reported on the Doug and Wolf show. 25 years old, 6'1" 233, tough runner with good hands. Has had injury issues but if he's the #2 RB in AZ, could be a nice fit with Chase Edmonds. Tim in NJ

There were a tonne of posts about how garbage our RB room was all last off season. That thread is full of it.

Also full of darksider vs lightsider arguing again. The usual folk saying Conner was between cooked and meh and the usual folk saying it was a good move.
