Chargers | Chatman Waived
Tue, 26 Jul 2005 13:47:22 -0700

The San Diego Chargers have announced the team has waived RB Jesse Chatman.

Dont ask him to catch the ball, but he is 5-9 245 lbs of a bowling ball. Had a 6 YPC last year with 3 TD's, 20 first downs on just 65 carries (Thats a good ratio for 1st downs). Still Young, and could be our 3rd RB if Hambrick is let go. Plus he had 10 Special teams tackles to boot.

I hope Green is taking notice of this kid.

How old is he?

Off the top of my head. This is his 4th year, so probably 24-26 age range.

He played in 15 games and only had 65 carries. Wonder why he didn't get more carries if he was averaging 6 YPC and why would they release someone who was obviously not very expensive and maybe on a breakout year?

Chatman had pierced his nipples.

Thinking we should waste a roster spot on this clown is a mistake. He was released by Marty and Co. for skipping OTA's all summer. The Chargers wanted him to showup to rehab an injury and apparently his weight has ballooned. If we want a fat, disruptive me-player, I am sure we still have Troy Hambrick's name in the Rolodex.

He did have the second amount of carries on the team. It is kind of hard to get carries with LT in front of you.

Here is the whole story.

Sounds as if he didnt make weight so they said he failed his physical.

Coach and He didnt see eye to eye, its seems.

Plus they Have Turner and Sproles as their backups who are better recievers out of the back field something the SD RB's need to have.

1) Because they have the best RB in the league already. His name in Ladanian Tomlinson.

2) Because last season they drafted a running back by the name of Michael Turner (who was a Harry Greene favorite), who is two or three years younger than Chatman, but also rushed for 5.2 YPC on 20 carries and looked really good (and is also better than Marcel Shipp).

3) Because this offseason they drafted Darren Sproles, who is also a small LB, but could turn out to be the most electric player in the NFL not named "Michael Vick", who will return kicks and punts as well as be a third-down option and maybe get on the field at the same time with LT--the best RB in the NFL.

Both Turner and Sproles are going to cost less than Chatman would have, and there's no way they were going to carry 4 RBs on the roster, plus Lorenzo Neal and Ahamad Galloway.

Don't you ever get tired of this crap?

Only when it stops being true. How many babies have been born to board members since Marcel Shipp last scored a TD? ;)

Who knows? How many babies will be born before Vick starts completing 60% of his passes? ;)

Doesn't really matter as long as he puts up that 67% winning percentage, does it? Everything else is for fantasy leagues.

On the other hand, how many games has relying on Marcel Shipp to get yards and not fumble in the red zone cost the Cards in the last three seasons?

I had heard rumors that SD was so high on Turner and Sproles that Chatman could be the victim of the numbers game. I hadn't heard about the physical, but this has been in the works for a while. He's a bnruiser who can play short yardage and do little else.

Just what we need...Think Arrington, Shipp, and Chatman, that is a pretty complet trio and nice array of styles and change of pace.

My wife and I have had one boy since his last touchdown, but hopefully he will find the endzone some this fall.

Team game, K9. Other members of the team actually contribute to winning games in NFL.

But by your logic, maybe we should look into trading for Quincy Carter since he seems to win more games than he loses?

I don't know K9. But it's funny that you blast Shipp for fumbling, while defending Vick, who is 'great' at putting the ball on the ground himself.

But what is their winning % with Vick and what is it without him. Dont know the exact #'s but it is a pretty big difference.

His stats may not be amazing, but the threat of his ability alone wins Atlanta games. Joeshmo is right.... NFC title game 3 years ago w/ Vick, Vick hurt, Atlanta stinks. Vick back last year, Atlanta back in playoffs and second best record in NFC.

Michael Turner played in 14 games and only had 20 rushing attempts and is 23 years old.
Chatman played in 15 games and had 65 attempts, a better YPC and is 25 years old. Hardly past his prime.
What does Sproles have to do with anything. He's a KR/PR. Chatman weighs 247 pounds and is a power runner. Two very different animals.

I think abomb is right.
