RB Leipzig have fired coach Marco Rose after slipping to sixth in the Bundesliga.
The announcement was made on Sunday following Saturday's 1-0 loss at Borussia Mönchengladbach and comes before Wednesday's German Cup semi-final at VfB Stuttgart.
Jürgen Klopp became head of global soccer at the Red Bull group in January and will have been involved in the decision despite being close to Rose.
Leipzig have qualified for the Champions League for the past six seasons and the threat of missing out has led the board to act with seven games to go in the Bundesliga.
