Interesting speculation because we'll likely pick up one if not two RBs. One drafted and one UFA.

I agree with you. I think Whiz wants to run alot more. I'd bring in Cedric Benson in for a workout, and not just because i'm a UT homer. He played extremely well for Cinn last year. I doubt the Bidwills would sign him though.

Interesting 4th ranked guy there. I'm curious what you like about him other than his size? He looked awefully clumbsy to me at the senior bowl, overall very weak week for him :D

haha like that weak week ;)

Seriously any links to good footage on him? He hasn't shown me any blocking technique or vision, but I admit I didn't see him at Liberty. He just looked lost at the Senior bowl imho.

Here you go.

I would think Graves has the final say. Excluding the Bidwills of course.

My goal each year is to get to the point where - if you mention a roster position - I can list the top ten prospects in order of preference - and why.

I'm nowhere near that yet. Everything is still somewhat of a blur. All I can conclude thus far is (a) there are no RB's I've seen so far that I'd put in the same class as a Tomlinson or Peterson and would be willing to trade up to grab. (b) a few lesser-known RB's caught my eye because they seemed strong enough in both the upper and lower body to break tackles while (maybe or maybe not) having the necessary speed to outrun defenders in the open field. (c) there are a few guys named "Brown" or "Johnson" who fall into the latter category and bear watching.

What the Combine can help clarify is - If you see a RB who looks strong-enough or shifty-enough but you're not sure if he's quick enough or fast enough, their Combine forty times may help fill in the missing blanks.

I believe the Cards need to wind up with a power back and a breakaway back to compliment Hightower. (Incidently, Edge and/or Arrington could conceivable continue to fill those needs; but assuming either or both aren't back, we'll need to plug those holes). We could also use one more all-purpose backup RB to provide depth.

I think the way we do this is to draft opportunistically - i.e. not reach for a RB who's not the answer or doesn't represent good value for the pick.

Once James is cut Hightower will be the only RB left under contract. So I would hope you are correct. Its a huge neccessity.

Thanks alot Czar, he looked pretty good as a Junior, so he changed his number to 23 as a senior. I'll keep looking for some more video on him as a senior, he looks to have bulked up since his junior season.

I do have an appreciation for big backs, but am leary of sacrificing skill for gerth, he kinda reminds me of Antowain Smith. Not necessarily a bad thing, he just doesn't jump out as me as an early round pick.

I wouldn't mind taking a look at Jason Wright RB Cleveland, I think I read he's available. He could replace Arrington, or we even resign Arrington cheap. Sproles would be a dream but do we want to spend 5M+ year? Not me. IMO, we need to get our RB early in the draft this year, we've put it off for so long, getting our $$$ worth out of edge.

My short list is Wells and Moreno, order depending on how well the physicals show at the combine, Wells is clearly the more talented/faster but durability ? are a concern. Moreno has great vision, balance and burst through the hole, but not overly fast. Late in the draft 2nd day, Foster out of Tennessee could turn out to be a starter, but durability and fumbling problems were issues at Tennessee.
