BADALONA, Spain (Ticker) -- Spain international guard Rudy Fernandez has extended his contract with DKV Joventut for three seasons, tying him to the club through the 2010-11 campaign.

Fernandez, who was selected in the first round of the NBA draft on June 28 by Phoenix and then traded to Portland, had been weighing his options with Barcelona also interested in signing him.

In announcing the new deal, DKV indicated on its web site it would not hinder the player's move to the NBA.
"The club, in exchange (for signing the deal), will ease his way to the NBA in any of the seasons," the club said.
DKV did not indicate if a buyout clause had been inserted into his new deal, however.

"I value this agreement greatly," Fernandez said. "I think Joventut have shown that they value me and trust me. They have improved my contract, that was something on our minds and more so, have given me the possibility of going to the NBA, which is my aim.

"For that reason, I have turned down many offers from other teams because I preferred to remain at DKV Joventut for one more year and to be with my all-time club. DKV are making a competitive team and the club still has the same dynamic with Aito (Garcia) as coach, I think he will do like in the last two years, a competitive team in all of the competitions."

He can still come to the NBA, but this cannot be good news for the Blazers.

I'd think they might be thinking of trading Jack, since he should have some trade value:

Jarrett Jack
Portland Trail Blazers
Position: G
Height: 6-3 Weight: 197
College : Georgia Tech

I was surprised the Blazers drafted Taurean Green in the 2nd round, but thought it may have something to do with the suns trade of James Jones to them. As it turns out it did not, so surprised they drafted him.
With the signing of Blake I would also think that Jack is going someplace.

I reported this back on draft night when everyone was calling for Rudy Fernandez, and then got upset with Portland acquired the pick to draft the same player. The Suns weren't going to draft Fernandez because of it. It's probably the No. 1 reason they traded the pick.

He will be 26 and well used in international competition by the time the Blazers have a chance to bring him to the States. From what I'm told, Fernandez may never play in the NBA. He's pretty happy in Europe. He could end up being another Sabonis type situation. They basically got James Jones for $3 million cash.
