I just watched this. I decided to watch another Hitchcock classic, and once again it didn't disappoint. It won best picture in 1941 and I can definitely see why. Surprisingly it was his only one to win best picture.

It really cracks me up the way they used to film people riding in cars. The background always bounces around wildly, while the driver can have a long conversation and never have to turn the wheel.

A good movie from start to finish, but the last 30 or so minutes were excellent.

Cool. I will add it to the queue. I had seen it on the IMDB Top 250 for years, but didnt know it was Hitchcock.

Great, great movie. I've seen it several times.

Do you remember Drivers Ed class in high school? It was pretty much the same thing--the actors would sit in a stationary car (or actually half a car) and then they would play some pre-recorded film in the background, and then film it for the regular movie. It is a very common trick, one that is used today as well. In fact, in most television shows (especially sitcoms), they do the same thing.

The difference now, of course, is that the technology is better, but if you're paying attention, you can tell.

This is the one Criterion Hitchcock classic that I do not own. I throughly enjoyed Notorious and Spellbound, but Rebecca I have not seen. I heard that Criterion will be reprinting them, so I will have to get this.
