Is there a single decision that Sarver has made without Colangelo input that makes you think any direction is going to be a positive one? Free agent signing? Draft pick? Choice of beer or hot dog vendors?

I have no hope. Sorry. Not trying to piss in anyone's cereal.

And for all those crowing about what a good move it was to let Amare leave, at this point it's pretty obvious that if the plan was to stick with Nash, that it would have been smarter to retain Amare, even with the injury risk.

We're two years into his 5 year deal, and we'd have been far more entertaining over the last 2, and probably over the next 3 if we had Stat.

Letting Amare go was the right move. Extending Nash and Frye, and signing Warrick, Chilli, and Hedo were horrible moves.

Of course he is first round material.

He is 6'9-6'10 with 7'4 wingspan, can shoot and for his size very good at putting the ball on the floor and create.
He is a prototype long small forward in the NBA and with lots of room for growth.
He is an average athlete and not particularly explosive but size and skills and age make him a mid - late first round prospect easily and at least a long role player NBA career.

He looks like Larry Sanders.

Assuming Nash goes, the Suns have no definitive player to build around, no system to shape a roster. I love Gentry, but he's really a defensive coach who hasn't had to do much with X's and O's with Nash running the show. Gentry did the same thing in Detroit letting Grant Hill run the offense. I think his tenure ends with Nash, but I fear it will come mid-season next year when the wheels really fall off. Unless the Suns want to totally reshape their image as a d-oriented club, I'm not sure what they think is their mission in the off-season minus Nash.

That's what you may think of him or read about him without watching him play.

The problem is that he is right now a non-existant athlete. He is a standing jumpshooter, no more, no less. Probably his torn ACL destroyed his athleticism (although people say that even before his injury he was a below average athlete) and if he didn't get it back after one season I'm not sure that he ever will.

Sign Lin or Dragic. If not then hold onto Nash. Is it possible to do a sign and trade with New Jersey or somehow we can get Marshon Brooks and an unrestricted 1st round pick then do it.

Resign Telfair, Redd, Lopez. Grant for a bench role. Then we have Gortat, Groundhog, Frye, Morris, Telfair, Redd and Rocking Robin. Mostly the second unit.

Add a legitimate power forward and a shooting guard or wing player, through the draft or a trade. Don't go for the role players, that didn't work.

I'd like Terrence Jones from Kentucky if he's available. He'll put up good +/-.

It's gonna be a long summer. Might as well watch some of the playoffs because football season is a long time away.

I'd also love it if Nash leaves in response to $arver saving. Serves that jerk right. I wish Nash all the best, either here or elsewhere.

The Suns feel like they met their goals of staying competitive while in transition and improving the defense, albeit slightly from ranking 25th in defensive field-goal percentage last season to 22nd this year.

So, management thinks they met their goals of stayed competitive by not making the playoffs again. And they say this year was part of their transition? Exactly how was this part of any transition? If this transition continues we are looking at almost making the playoffs for years to come.

Excellent point. The quote from the article to which was referred is quite perplexing.

The Suns feel like they met their goals of staying competitive while in transition and improving the defense, albeit slightly from ranking 25th in defensive field-goal percentage last season to 22nd this year. However, they could lose their best stopper, 39-year-old Grant Hill, to free agency, and the defense continues to be compromised by awful rebounding. The Suns ranked 27th in rebounding percentage.

If the Suns missed the playoffs the past two seasons, both without winning records, and feel they did well in transition then it seems to imply the Suns will have arrived this coming season. As I view it, the Suns will still be a team in transition without one star player on the roster. I'm sure the Suns will make roster changes but what takes them out of transition mode even if they find a star player?

Have any of you guys brainstormed about possible salary dump deals in which the Suns could use their cap space to absorb a bad contract and snag a draft pick. I imagine the amnesty clause has limited some of the possibilities.

Washington with Blatche seems like an obvious possibility, but Washington is not going to give a likely top 3 pick in the draft to dump him.

If Atlanta flames out in the playoffs this year, I could see them realizing that their current core doesn't have what it takes and try to move JJ. But his contract is not just bad, it's horrific. It alone would swallow up nearly all of our capspace.

Golden State has some buyers remorse with David Lee. John Salmons and Francisco Garcia have contracts
that The Kings would like to move.

Amnesty clause is one reason, a lot of teams already having cap space is another. Plus the amount of bad contracts have decreased significantly in the past several years.

Yes, WAS would love to move Blatche but not for price of a top5 pick. If they can't it is still not a huge problem since they are in a very early stage of their rebuilding.

ATL might want to move Joe Johnson but it's highly doubtful that the Suns will trade for him due his past issues with Sarver. Even if we package all of our bad contracts (Childress, Frye and Warrick), I still would reluctantly deal for JJ, his contract is so huge.

GSW seems fine with the Lee-Bogut froncourt at least they wanna give a shot to them next season.

Garcia has a team option on his contract after next season so he is their Hakeem Warrick with a bit higher salary.

They obviously wanna move Salmons but I don't know at the expense of what. The Kings already dealt a future 1st rounder for JJ Hickson so they are limited to do so with another 1st rounder.

I guess they would deal Marcus Thornton if they can draft or sign a quality SF and move Tyreke Evans back to SG but I'm not sure that I want Thornton with that contract.

Otherwise is quite tough to think of any team that wants to move one of their worse contracts for cap space since it could bring them nothing due the fact that there are already at least 15 teams having (or getting easily) significant cap space.

I dont even think it will take that long. If Nash isnt here then the wheels wont ever be on next year. During our last 7 years when Nash does not play the Suns winning percentage is... I believe, below 20%, and the 2012-2013 Suns will have a lot less talent than some of those other rosters. I'd pencil us in for, at best, 20 wins.

Unless of course the Suns follow the Detroit Pistons recent rebuild model and throw long term deals at guys like Beasley, Crawford and Gordon.

We keep our draft picks instead of trading them away.

There are currently 7 players that the Suns drafted that are in the playoffs.

The right move? Well we were one year removed from the WCF, and are now two years removed from Stat. In retrospect, if the long term plan was to keep Nash, we should have kept Stat as well. The last two years would have been far more entertaining, and even if his health isn't good over the next 3 years, at least we'd have something.

Compared to the last two years of misery and our future going forward, retaining Amare would have been a better choice, especially considering our FO and chances of any decent players coming here in the near future.

because KTAR for the most part runs the Phoenix sports radio, and there honestly isnt an intelligent one amongst the entire crew.

look up and down the lineup if KTAR. each block contains a **** and a Derp that just loves to hear themselves talk up a storm.

Further, 620 partners up with the Suns just like the Cards, so you'll rarely hear either team criticized, and they lose all objectivity.

Suns could trade Warrick and Childress for Amare, Lin, and Shump.

Thats how negative Amare's trade value is at this moment.

I read an article this morning from Paul Coro dated 5-2-12 at azcentral. It mentioned that the Suns almost certainly plan to match an offer for Lopez, the Suns may not use all their CAP space and that Gentry will not be given an extension. The article also talks about much, much more.

There was one paragraph in the article that I have reread several times and I am still not clear of it's meaning, in particular one sentence.

If not an extension, Gentry could be rewarded with a better roster if the Suns choose to use their cap space. Babby said he has been the agent who pressured teams with cap room into bad decisions.

Maybe someone has some thoughts on what it means. Anyway, interesting read.

Babby has said on his weekly 620 radio visit that the Suns "will not get locked into long term deals to just spend up to the cap"

And of course his rah rah about keeping Nash is the #1 priority. This is why I am pretty sure their "plan" is to sign more older veterans to short term deals with Nash and keep trying to build a future roster with mid round picks.
