CARDINALS MAKE ROSTER MOVES
The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has signed linebacker JASON BABIN and elevated linebacker GABE MARTIN from the practice squad to the active roster.
To make room on the roster, the team has placed defensive tackle CORY REDDING (ankle) on injured reserve and linebacker ALEX OKAFOR (toe) on the non-football injury (NFI) list.
Babin (6-3, 267) is a 12-year NFL veteran who has 64.5 career sacks and is a two-time Pro Bowl selection (2010-11). Babin has played with eight different teams over the past 12 seasons, including playing in two games this season with Baltimore. He played in all 16 games (four starts) with the New York Jets in 2014 and had two sacks, 22 QB hurries and 29 tackles. Babin has started 94 of the 148 career games that he has played in and has 465 tackles (318 solos), 14 forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. He had a career-best 18 sacks in 2011 with Philadelphia, the third most in the NFL that season after posting 12.5 sacks with Tennessee in 2010.
He entered the NFL with Houston as a first round selection (27th overall) in the 2004 NFL Draft out of Western Michigan. Babin has five different seasons in his career with at least five sacks, including four years in a row between 2010-13. He also has 14 career multi-sack games.
Martin (6-2, 236) has spent the entire season on the Cardinals practice squad after he was released at the end of the preseason on September 5. He originally joined the Cardinals as an undrafted rookie free agent in May out of Bowling Green. He was a three-year starter at Bowling Green and finished his college career with with 246 tackles (144 solos), 30 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, three interceptions, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 45 games (30 starts).
Babin will wear jersey #58 and Martin will wear jersey #50.
