You have got to be kidding me. Okafor toe injury and Redding re-injured his ankle. Cards sign Jason Babin to replace Okafor.

How did this happen? ughh...

#AZCardinals signed pass-rusher Jason Babin after LB Alex Okafor injured himself during the bye week. He goes on non-football injury list

1. Okafors toe was a bye week injury, so literally it could be he stubbed it and broke it.

2. Redding is a big loss from a leadership standpoint. He was also valuable vs the run.

3. Seeing how putrid our special teams coverage has been, Gabe Martin might be a really good call up. I remember he did well in PS on kick coverage. The young hungry guys usually aren't lacking motivation.

4. Babin might be a heady signee. Hes got no explosion anymore, so hes not a pass rush guy, but hes a savvy veteran. Good vs the run. Big, strong. And TBH, Okafor wasn't much of a pass threat anyways.

5. Im counting the seconds till the lame, predictable, Darren Urban "Remember when Babin tore out Ellingtons Dred's" article is coming.

Okafor has been a big disappointment this year. He had 8 sacks last year and only 2 this year.

He never recovered from his calf injury. I thought he looked good before he got hurt.

Both came in one game on coverage sacks. ARZ needs to bring in at least one pass rusher as that is the one thing this team has sorely lacked all year.

More info from Jurecki:

CARDINALS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has signed linebacker JASON BABIN and elevated linebacker GABE MARTIN from the practice squad to the active roster.

To make room on the roster, the team has placed defensive tackle CORY REDDING (ankle) on injured reserve and linebacker ALEX OKAFOR (toe) on the non-football injury (NFI) list.

Babin (6-3, 267) is a 12-year NFL veteran who has 64.5 career sacks and is a two-time Pro Bowl selection (2010-11). Babin has played with eight different teams over the past 12 seasons, including playing in two games this season with Baltimore. He played in all 16 games (four starts) with the New York Jets in 2014 and had two sacks, 22 QB hurries and 29 tackles. Babin has started 94 of the 148 career games that he has played in and has 465 tackles (318 solos), 14 forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. He had a career-best 18 sacks in 2011 with Philadelphia, the third most in the NFL that season after posting 12.5 sacks with Tennessee in 2010.

He entered the NFL with Houston as a first round selection (27th overall) in the 2004 NFL Draft out of Western Michigan. Babin has five different seasons in his career with at least five sacks, including four years in a row between 2010-13. He also has 14 career multi-sack games.

Martin (6-2, 236) has spent the entire season on the Cardinals practice squad after he was released at the end of the preseason on September 5. He originally joined the Cardinals as an undrafted rookie free agent in May out of Bowling Green. He was a three-year starter at Bowling Green and finished his college career with with 246 tackles (144 solos), 30 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, three interceptions, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 45 games (30 starts).

Babin will wear jersey #58 and Martin will wear jersey #50.

Ugh. Not the time you want this to happen - I wish we could have determined this a week ago, and given Babin a little more time in the playbook. Frankly, I'm surprised he was the pick over Shaugnessy.

Why? This team needs pass rushers! Personally I think Babin is better than Okafor if he's in decent shape. The Redding injury is more felt on the team than Alex IMO.

Curious to see if Shaq Riddick is active, and if so, sees the field now

You rarely see players come in and make an immediate contribution to the team unless they're already familiar with the playbook. It took Freeney a little bit of time to warm up, get into football shape, and rush the passer. Sure, you can trot them out there for 5-10 snaps and say "GO," but you can't really expect them to hold up in coverage, understand blitz schemes, that kind of thing.

The guy has three games to get up to speed - and slightly under four weeks if everything goes perfect. Shaugnessy is less likely to have a mental lapse.

That isn't to say I'm mad about Babin being the choice, just surprised.

Agreed that Redding is a big loss.

Okafor, either by injury or regression, has been a major disappointment this season, and did not have one remarkable game that I can think of like he did last season. This loss only hurts from a depth perspective.

The one OLB who we can ill-afford to lose is Freeny, and that's saying a lot about our LB corp.

While I'll slightly agree, you can bet that Babin will be told "go get the QB" that's gonna be all that's expected from him at this point! As far as Matt, he couldn't do anything other that stop the run & was a solid leader let's not kid ourselves.

All I know is if you can get to the QB when playing for all the marbles you generally go home. That's why I think Babin was the choice.

BA is pissed... When asked about the injury at his press conference, BA's response: "Go ask Alex..."

Idiot! :mulli:

He'll be cut in the offseason...

I still don't know how that Seattle guard did nt get fined for targeting Redding...I'm very angry right now.
