The N.F.L. team in Washington announced Monday that it would drop its logo and “Redskins” from its name, yielding to sponsors and Native American activists who have long criticized it as a racist slur.

The team, one of the oldest in the N.F.L., did not announce a new name on Monday as it continues a review to evaluate possibilities.

“Today, we are announcing we will be retiring the Redskins name and logo upon completion of this review,’’ the statement said.

Probably will not happen, but going back to my youth (1940's) and the many cowboy and indian movies, I hope they change the name to The Washington Palefaces.

The Navajo Nation strongly encouraged the Washington team to rename the franchise to honor Indigenous people.

“Renaming the team ‘Code Talkers’ to honor the Navajo Code Talkers, and other tribal nations who used their sacred language to help win World War II, would send the team on a path to restoring its reputation and correcting the historical misrepresentation of Indigenous people,” the letter read.

I've heard the Washington Red Tails being thrown around and it sound kind of cool to me. Love the nod to the Tuskegee Airman and a lot they could do with the logo.

With that said as a person who is not a fan of the Washington football team I say they should name it after our Forefathers and call themselves the Washington Foreskins.
