Justin Houston OLB, Georgia.
This is the guy we passed on to draft Robert Housler who is now buried on our depth chart at TE. Unless he becomes a WR this is a wasted pick. Houston was one of the top rated 3-4 OLB's in this draft and started against top NCAA talent every week. Character issues aside, talent is talent. Now we did not know that Heap would be cut by the Ravens, but during the draft last year what was more of a need? A pass rush OLB or a TE, oh yeah nearly every scout in the NFL had this guy rated above Housler on their overall board.

KC is jumping for joy.

Because housler, in his rookie season, is behind todd heap he's a wasted pick? That's kind of short-sighted, don't you think?

Honestly.....who cares. I'm not going to judge this off season by the direction we went in on our third round pick. Especially when both positions were a need at the time. I'm sure Houston will be a good player but Housler has the same opportunity.

It is easy in hindsight to say that Housler was a bad pick, but there was no way the Cardinals would know Heap would be available. The lockout pretty much precluded planning on the draft.

That is why the Cardinals just stuck to their board regardless of need. Did I agree with it at the time? Absolutely not. I hated our 2nd, 3rd, and 7th round picks.

But I find it hard to bitch about the Cardinals right now. In 3 years, you may be right. For now, it is no big deal.

Ahahahahahahaha, I'll be bumping this thread in 3 years when Houston still hasn't done anything because he doesn't care. I'm sorry but this guy fell to the 3rd round for a reason.

I liked Houston also, but 2 positive tests of marijuana did him in.

The guy I wanted in Cardinal red was WR Edmond Gates because of his speed. I was almost certain Breaston was a goner & this offense will miss his speed. Gates speed would've kept those safeties off #11.

I liked him the whole time, picked him in that mock GM draft I got invited to over on the Seahawks Blue. But he's as stupid the idiots I see smoking chron while on parole or probation. Getting ripped (not in the workout room ripped) before you get signed, or even before the draft is pure *******. I recall a lot of teams passing on him, the way he should have passed on the sweet gaunja. It aint crack, no withdrawels, not even any nicotine. Stupid kid with tons of talent, you see one every year.

The Cardinals screwed up not drafting that Brady guy too. I dont know why we dont consult the crystal ball before we make these picks.

Because Plummer broke the freaking thing playing basketball with it, we never knew we had one till that happened. Thomas Jones went to pick up the pieces and then cut his hand pretty bad

Housler, barring injury, likely won't even the see the field this year. He'll spend a year getting bigger and stronger then we'll see what we have next year.

How young do you think Heap is? You couldn't ask for a better situation for our tremendously raw but ridiculously gifted small school rookie TE than to have an aging but still effective Todd Heap (and to some extent, Jeff King) to learn from. It was going to take 2-3 years to properly develop Housler anyhow and now we have an extremely good stopgap as well as a good example/teacher for the rook.

Houston was one of the top rated 3-4 OLB's in this draft and started against top NCAA talent every week. Character issues aside, talent is talent.

Character issues are rarely put "aside" by the Cardinals, and I like that.

Now we did not know that Heap would be cut by the Ravens, but during the draft last year what was more of a need? A pass rush OLB or a TE,

LT was a bigger need than RB for us the year AD came out. How did drafting for need work out for you there?

oh yeah nearly every scout in the NFL had this guy rated above Housler on their overall board.

Oh really?? Please, do tell how you gained access to these scouts' notes.

This sage judgment of Housler vs. a guy (Houston) at a totally different position took place after how many days of practice? Three? Four?

You can always let your fingers do the walking through the record book and find plenty of woulda-couldas to gripe about.

Wasn't Joe Montana drafted in the 3rd round (which makes the 32 teams who had 64+ earlier opportunities to draft him - idiots)?

I dunno...Justin Timberlake is too skinny to play backer.....and Sam Houston is too now.........Don't think I could ever trust a guy named Justin to play backer, sounds like a *****....and they didnt even like him enough to give him a nick name??
See now...if they called him Howitzer Houston, he might be worth looking at
