No just being loyal me as usual - ain’t scared of poop nuggets opinions- you guys wanted more - I wanted more from BJ - the whole world wanted more from a mid 1st round pick. But he averaged consistently over 40 catches and over 500 yards and I remind you that he was on the field competing for catches with 2 of our and the nfl’s best wrs ever. He was our deep threat and performed that role as a really big guy. And helped Q and Fitz” and team success in that way - Was a great character guy and. I Liked him a lot-
Stats are ok - low TDS but others did well around him

But edge and CJ and others efforts seem to get trashed by local media and fans also - with fans like ours who needs opponents. BJ was not a bust - just couldn’t compete with Q and Fitz - who could? Breaston ? Floyd? Smoke? JJ? We like smokes numbers cause he was 3rd round and had a 1000 yard year, complimenting fits and out performing Floyd. Sue me I liked BJ

#1--You said he had good hands, which is the opposite of the truth. He had SKILLET HANDS.

#2--I get that you have your own version of the past, but Skillet Hands was a bustety bust bust. His career numbers--CAREER, not Arizona numbers, were 314 rec, a touch under 4,000 total yards, and 16 TDs in NINE SEASONS. That's LESS than the numbers you quoted, and you left out that he averaged less than 2 TDs per season. That is solidly in the bust zone.

I liked Bryant Johnson and ain’t going to stop - he was a good man and tried hard - he was a very fast big man and drafted early- more class than his fans. Like who would not look uglier than Q and Fitz? Proved size and hands beats size and speed.

My current big past draft problem was taking smoke over Everson Griffin - Some May remember my fight over that - I liked smoke but Griffin was much better bpa
:biglaugh:

You're clearly trolling with that poop nugget! He was called skillet hands for a reason.

I'm pretty sure Bryant is size with speed being beat by Fitz & Q with size & hands.

Yeah he just couldn’t beat out Quan and Fitz! Look how he exploded when he got out from under their shadow.

Everyone tries hard.......that is the equivalent to the ridiculous statement I hear from people in life "I work hard." ....... yeah, who doesn't think they work hard ?

Just a pet peeve.

Lets not forget that we got Calvin Pace the next pick. I wish Suggs played here as much as the next guy, but when you can get Calvin Pace and a WR, that's almost a no brainer. Besides, with the way the organization was run Suggs would have been gone when his contract was up just like Calvin Pace.

I disagree. Suggs would've been successful anywhere he went. Pace became as solid roleplayer and Johnson was a decent 3rd or 4th option at best. You don't trade a pick you could use to draft a potential HALL OF FAME pass rusher to take depth players, you just don't. We all knew that was the best case scenario at the time. I tried to fool myself into believing it, but it was blatantly obvious. And like @cheesebeef stated, the Cardinals ALSO traded back in the second round. The trade value chart showed it as a losing trade for value as well. It was a bad trade at the time, and history emphatically shows the naysayers were right.

Two things have made this franchise markedly better over the past ten plus years: Michael Bidwill taking over the team and Rod Graves getting fired. Both took way too long to happen, but when they did, this team has become markedly better. I have faith that the Mike/SK team will at least occasionally produce a winning team, but with Rod Graves, it was almost dumb luck. One could argue that the Warner teams were more the work of Denny Green since it was blatantly obvious that Green was making the picks during his time with the team. Graves was a disaster before he came to the Cardinals; the Bears ran him out of town after a few horrid drafts.

I remember yelling at the television screen after this one. Suggs even said he wanted to be here. The same when we passed on Urlacher and Adrian Peterson... I remember my Father telling me not to be arrogant and think I know more than a GM in the Pro's... but how many times when a GM does an unexpected move does it end up being better than the general consensus on a player in the 1st round? I don't think it's that often...

At a point in time in which no one wanted to play for the Cards, having a legit player say he wanted to play for the team is an understated reason for wanting to draft him.

I hated the trade and the Bryant Johnson pick, especially since Q was the one who balled out.

A draft that produced Suggs and Q would've been a solid "A" in my book.

He doesn't count the years he spent elsewhere only with the Cards. It doesn't fit the argument....

How can he be a bust if he played for NINE seasons? I get that he wasn't that good but I would say a bust doesn't make it past his first contract.

Seriously? Just trying to be contrary? Okay. Lots and lots of journeymen that do little to nothing in this league manage to stick around for a long time on NFL rosters. It isn't like the NBA, where there are only so many slots--there's a need for a lot of WRs in the NFL, and even more for special teams players. Also, teams always seem to want to give a former 1st-rounder a second or third chance because of possible potential, even if they've never done anything.

Saying a player CAN'T be a bust because they played in the NFL for X years is as irrational as saying a player MUST be good because he was drafted in X round.

Well I like BJ, some can eat like piranha all they want, 40+ catches with well over 10 yard average as a deep threat with great size. You can find hundreds of busts worse to chew on - and the man never disrespected himself or the cards or their fans- that’s my opinion and you ain’t gonna beat it out of me,

I would contradict your argument a bit by saying the NBA is littered with players that spend years on the end of the bench as DNP-CD. In the NFL, I don't think you'll see too many players make a roster for 9 years and never contribute, like can happen in the NBA.

ESPN reading Calvin Pace was one of the best/worst Cardinals draft moments of all time

They all said ‘Who?’ At almost the exact same time.

Chris Berman said ‘I’ve never heard of him.’
One draft nik said ‘I have but ...hold on he’s in my paperwork somewhere....yea I have him going in the 6th round.’
The other person said ‘you got me I’ve never heard of him.’
Berman summed it up ‘well there you have it. Calvin Pace goes in the 1st to the cardinals.’

I don't think I've ever been madder at a draft than that one. Drafting Suggs was the no brainer pick of the century. We needed a pass rusher so badly and the best one in the draft wanted to play for us and said so openly and we passed on him for two okay players. Suggs will be in the Hall of Fame ten years from now.

As mad as I was about that one (and trust me I was plenty mad), I was much angrier about passing on AP.
