In Tokyo on Saturday morning, Britain's trampolinists will return to the competition hall for the individual World Championships finals, seeking to build on the silver that the women's team grabbed on Friday. Having been educated in the difference between a ring-leap and a stag-leap, a Tkatchev and a Yurchenko, I now have newfound respect for the unseen heroes of this sport: the nine judges who calculate the scores at major international events. Simone Biles may be pushing the sport forward with her astonishing acrobatics, but spare a thought for those who have to check whether her toes are sufficiently pointed.
