The New York Giants have held visits with veteran quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Russell Wilson over the past several days but remain patient as they await the decision of future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.
The issue facing the Giants is that Rodgers is awaiting a decision of his own -- one from the Minnesota Vikings.
The Vikes are reportedly Rodgers' preferred destination but their interest in the four-time MVP is uncertain. Some suggest Minnesota is very interested in his services, while others suggest there is no interest whatsoever.
Wherever the truth lies, the Giants and general manager Joe Schoen are at their mercy and it may not end well for them either way.
Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports that Rodgers may opt for retirement if the Vikings don't sign him, instead choosing to walk away from the game rather than playing for the Giants or Pittsburgh Steelers.
If true, this is a very precarious situation for the Giants. Hours are ticking off the clock and it's becoming clearer by the day that Miami's Cam Ward will be out of reach in the 2025 NFL draft.
Should the Giants fail to sign Rodgers, who was already their option B behind Matthew Stafford, they'll be forced to pivot to option C in free agency and option B in April's draft. And for a regime that's hanging on by a thread, that's the worst case scenario.

Rodgers has been targeted by the Steelers and Giants but has essentially put both teams on hold while he waits for clarity regarding the Vikings’ situation. If Minnesota ceases to be an option, it’s also possible that Rodgers will turn down both the Steelers (a 2024 playoff team) and Giants and instead opt for retirement.
The bottom line: There are a lot of people waiting on Rodgers’ decision. And Rodgers, at least for now, is waiting on O’Connell.
