I’m so tired of this “The Cardinals are a year ahead of schedule” narrative.

The only reason we were on our previous schedule is because we decided not to upgrade the team despite having a ton of cap space and a buttload of picks to really push it forward. I can already see that lame as quote being used to defend Monty for not upgrading the pass rushing or WR unit.

Truth is we could have done so in the offseason WITHOUT giving up draft picks. Now, if we do, the price only goes up from a player and pick standpoint.

No need to release Prater, yet. Keep him stashed in IR, just in case something happens to Ryland. If/when you feel secure with Ryland as long-term answer, you can do an injury settlement with Prater, so he can go to a new team.
Except they can't do that. If his window is not opened up after 4 games he's out for the year.

Yeah but they been doing that. Couple weeks back the announcers highlighted a play where the QB had 11 seconds to throw...that's insane...but the DB'S have to be covering well for that to happen...and it seems opponents regularly have 5 seconds... our secondary covers well
I didn’t see wide open receivers which means they are learning from their previous mistakes. Melton is finally getting his legs.

Our edge rushers had 4.5 sacks today, with 4 total going in! We more than doubled that number today.

The X factor? It'll be interesting to Xavier Thomas and his snap count. Even when Collins got his sacks, X seemed to disrupt things, helping out. I hope this is a sign of what to come.

Next season could be;
Azeez Ojulari
BJ Ojulari
Xavier Thomas (1.5 sacks today)
Zaven Collins (2 sack today)
1st Round pick.

Thoughts?
I think I'm hoping Monti doesn't look at Xavier Thomas as the answer, because he isn't. He had a nice game, feasting on a bad OL missing players, because Rallis finally blitzed a lot, and, yes, because of his own graft. It's one game. You don't base your entire team strategy at a position devoid of talent based on one game.

That said, fingers crossed he becomes our out of nowhere star edge!

The dream as discussed elsewhere would be a Micah Parsons deal but I can't see Dallas doing that. Maxx is angry and speaking out but LV has already said they won't trade him. Those guys jump right as guys you could give up picks for give the money to and not look back.
Add an elite pass rusher and then hopefully get Robinson back and we're looking good but I don't expect it to happen

I don't know how anyone can watch Xavier Thomas and be encouraged. He runs straight into the blocker and sticks - every time. The only way he does anything is if the blocker releases the block because he thinks he has already run himself out of the play.

I'm tired of it to, because they aren't ahead of schedule - in my opinion they are just on schedule.

Just about everyone on the board picked them as 9-8 or 8-9 and that is exactly the pace they are on.

I think we all know the 49'ers are the better team and will in all likelihood win the division and keep the Cards out of the playoffs.

three teams fall into the Venn Diagram of Despair: the intersection of "bad football team" and "over the cap in 2025"

Saints
Dolphins
Browns

i think these teams would be open to trading players who are signed beyond this year, especially players who may not be on the roster when their playoff chances open again ( two years from today).

Who are your targets??

He’s 1v1 drill pass rusher not a football pass rusher. He had 3.5 sacks at Clemson as a 24 year old 6th year Sr.

In 2026, where the 3rd is the best case scenario?
Giving up a top 100 pick for a player on an expiring deal pretty much means you have to extend him and kills your leverage in those talks. If we are going to be aggressive in FA, we won't get comp picks back if he leaves. Just not a sound use of resources even though we are desperate.
