With the NFL draft getting closer, 30 visit season is upon us, and the Indianapolis Colts are reportedly expected to host Texas defensive tackle Alfred Collins, who is one of the top players at that position group in this year's class.
Each draft cycle, every team is able to have up to 30 prospects in for visits at the team facility. It's an opportunity for teams to do medical checks if needed, walk through film, and get to know the player.
In what is a very deep defensive tackle draft class, Collins is PFF's ninth-ranked player at that position and the 49th-ranked prospect overall.
At 6-5 - 320 pounds, Collins has size. He also has the athleticism to match and is versatile, having played up and down the defensive front in college. He recorded 18 pressures and one sack in 2024 but was one of the best interior run defenders in college football, according to PFF's metrics.
For more on Collins' game, here is a snippet of what NFL.com's Lance Zierlein wrote in his pre-draft profile:
"Collins isn’t going to stand out in one particular area, but he plays hard and has outstanding physical traits to blend right into an NFL defensive rotation. He’s quick laterally to spoil landmarks for zone blockers and has the stride length to disrupt upfield if asked. He added mass in 2024 and was harder to move when his pad level was right, but he can be tardy to shed and tackle a gap over."
Adding to the defensive tackle spot very much needs to be on GM Chris Ballard's radar. At a minimum, depth is needed with only five players on the roster, but more importantly, the Colts need improved play from the rotational defenders behind DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart. Too often last season, offenses took advantage when those two weren't on the field.
