The Indianapolis Colts will be hosting Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons on a pre-draft visit, according to Adam Schefter.

Each draft cycle, every team is able to have up to 30 prospects in for visits at the team facility. It's an opportunity for teams to do medical checks if needed, walk through film, and get to know the player.

Simmons measures in at 6-047 and weighs 317 pounds. He was the Buckeyes' starting left tackle during the 2023 season and at the start of 2024. He also has starting right tackle experience from his time at San Diego State.

Unfortunately, this most recent season for Simmons ended in October due to a torn patellar tendon. Through five-plus games, he had surrendered only one pressure over 158 pass-blocking snaps.

In 2023, Simmons ranked tied for 35th among all tackles in PFF's pass-blocking efficiency metric. In the run game that year, he ranked 67th in blocking grade.

On PFF's big board, Simmons is the third-ranked offensive tackle and the 17th-ranked prospect overall.

For a closer look at Simmons' game, here is what Lance Zierlein of NFL.com had to say in his scouting report:

"He’s a consistently fluid mover both inside the box and when asked to play in space, and he has the slide quickness to compete against NFL edge speed. He’s more positional than powerful in completing his run-blocking tasks, but he can fit into all schemes. Improved hand placement and latch-in strength can help better control opponents in both the run and pass games. Simmons can still be susceptible to twists and counters in pass pro, so he might need a year to continue honing his craft in that area before he is ready to take on NFL pocket hunters."

At a minimum, the Colts need to bolster their offensive tackle depth, and that need only grows if Matt Goncalves is going to move to right guard. In that instance, Blake Freeland is the top option to come off the bench.

However, what Simmons could provide in the short term is added competition at one of the game's most important positions, while in the long term, he could be the Colts' starting right tackle with Braden Smith in the final year of his deal.
