The 2025 NFL draft is less than a month away, and the Tennessee Titans remain somewhat of a mystery.
While all signs point to them taking Miami quarterback Cam Ward at No. 1 overall, nothing is set in stone, and the Titans will be receiving phone calls for the top spot.
Sports Illustrated writer Matthew Schmidt points to a report from Adam Schefter that poses the thought of the Titans potentially making a historic trade.
The Browns do like Ward. A contingent, including owner Jimmy Haslam, conducted a private workout with him in Miami on Wednesday. If the Browns did attempt to move up from No. 2, it would be an NFL draft first and something no one has seen before, and the compensation would be interesting. The Titans have hinted that it would take a haul to get them to move off the top spot, and they may not land that with a simple pick swap.
The closest draft trade to somewhat base compensation would likely be the 2017 NFL draft. In that trade, the Chicago Bears traded up one spot with the San Francisco 49ers. In the deal, they dealt the No. 3 pick, their third-round pick (No. 67), one of their fourth-round picks (No. 111), and a 2018 third-round pick to move up to the second spot to take quarterback Mitch Trubisky.
The Giants are also a question mark at this point on whether they would be willing to part with draft capital to move up from the third spot. They did just sign both Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson, but anything is possible when trying to land the future of the franchise.
The Titans do have a lot of holes to fill and could use as much draft capital as they can gather to help retool their roster, and even a trade similar to the 2017 Bears deal could pay dividends.
Will it happen? Who knows. But, as general manager Mike Borgonzi has stated many times, he is "open to anything."

"Well you also heard the Titans GM Mike Borgonzi say that he's open to anything. And so he's going to be listening to phone calls," Schefter said on NFL Live. "... I expect the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants both to make calls and let's see if there's a team that can come up with an offer that the Titans can't pass up. Yes, the Titans absolutely do like Cam Ward. Yes, they're ready to take him. But these teams have one month to change Tennessee's mind and make an offer compelling enough to move Tennessee, which has a ton of holes on its roster, off the No. 1 pick."
