Jacksonville Jaguars restricted free agent offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen was on a visit this past week with the Seattle Seahawks, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.

A restricted free agent is a player with three accrued seasons in the NFL. The Jaguars already placed an original round tender on Van Lanen, but he still has the ability to meet and negotiate with other teams.

In short, with Van Lanen receiving an original round tender from the Jaguars, if another team offers him a contract, the Jaguars will have the opportunity to match the deal, or they can let Van Lanen walk. Then in return, Jacksonville gets a sixth-round pick from the new team, since that's the round that Van Lanen was drafted in.

If Van Lanen stays with the Jaguars this season, his contract will be for one season, and the original round tender comes with a pre-determined salary amount of $3.26 million.

Seahawks GM John Schneider says on appearance on @SeattleSports the team had offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen in for a visit this week. Van Lanen is a restricted free agent and was given an original round tender by Jacksonville in March of $3.26 million.

Van Lanen meeting with the Seahawks is a normal part of this process, but it is at least noteworthy.

The Jaguars have invested into the offensive line in free agency, which includes signing tackles Chuma Edoga and Fred Johnson, both of whom could compete for the swing tackle role off the bench, along with Van Lanen.

Van Lanen appeared in six games on offense last season, which included three starts. He played both the right and left tackle spots. Van Lanen gives the Jaguars needed depth at tackle and could be the team's swing tackle off the bench in 2025.

The 2024 season was Van Lanen's third with the Jaguars. He was originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2021 out of Wisconsin and was traded to Jacksonville in 2022.
