The Jacksonville Jaguars continue to add to the offensive line, reportedly signing former Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Fred Johnson, according to Adam Schefter.
This addition comes on the heels of the Jaguars also signing Chuma Edoga, Robert Hainsey, and Patrick Mekari last week.
Johnson went undrafted in 2019 out of Florida and has spent time with Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Tampa Bay, and Philadelphia the last two seasons.
He has been an off-the-bench option for the teams he's been on. With the Eagles in 2024, Johnson played a career-high 497 snaps, which included six starts. Johnson has experience at both right and left tackle and even some right guard snaps in his career as well.
Johnson would take his lumps last season in pass pro, allowing eight sacks and 38 pressures in only 240 pass-blocking snaps. He ranked 56th in PFF's run-blocking grade as well.
This is a move that provides the Jaguars with additional options along the offensive line. Other options when it comes to the swing tackle role include Edoga and Cole Van Lanen.
GM James Gladstone said at the NFL combine that the offensive was going to be a priority for the Jaguars and that has very much been the case. When it comes to getting Trevor Lawrence back on track, it starts with having a run game to lean on and time in the pocket.
