Unless I'm reading it wrong, it seems to say the roster bonus, $8M, is due the 5th day of 2015, which would be next Monday

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/larry-fitzgerald/

Why they would schedule that to happen potentially in the middle of a title run is beyond me.

There is no way on God's green earth that this team should pay Fitz $23M for 2015. I would take the cap hit and use the $9M to strengthen the Oline and maybe find an ILB since Foote for all intentions will retire. His cap hits are more manageable for the remaining 3 years.

Read the article, and you'll see that means guaranteed base salaries as opposed to roster and signing bonuses. Once the money has been paid by a team, it has to account for that on its cap somehow.

It's why Jay Cutler's contract is tradeable but Larry Fitzgerald's isn't. Carson Palmer's contract is tradeable, but Larry Fitzgerald's isn't. The final legacy of Rod Graves.

Craig Morgan is nothing more than a troll looking for attention since ASU's athletics season is essentilly over until next football season. He and Kent Somers are trolling really, really hard for attention on this.

This. It's a business and it may be time to part ways. Better for Larry and better for the team.

We won't know who'll be available that we could sign.

But for the way the staff uses him, they seem to be moving on in a different direction. He's been under utilized and somewhat more susceptible to injury getting older. The QB carousel certainly hasn't helped his cause.

Agree with the gist of your post. What baffles me is why they continue using him in motion to block the backside rusher on run plays. Especially knowing he's gimpy to begin with.

Initially, earlier in the year, I simply assumed they were using the motion as a way later in the year to fake the run and go play action, but that never happened. Every time Larry's in motion on that backside it's a run, there's no other plays based off it that we've seen thus far.

Maybe. But I'd venture to guess that this "source" is someone from the Fitzgerald camp leaking info to get an anxious response from the fans in an effort to leverage negotiations.

With season over, Fitzgerald speculation ramps up

As PFT reported last month, the Cardinals will not cut Fitzgerald, despite a $23.6 million cap number for 2015. The next morning, G.M. Steve Keim said that the team has configured its 2015 budget to keep Fitzgerald at his coming cap number.

While they won’t cut him, they could trade him. And if they decide not to trade him, they’ll hope that Fitzgerald would be willing to take a reduced salary that better reflects his current role and value to the team. If he wants to win a Super Bowl, it makes sense to free up cash and cap space for other players.
