The New York Giants failed to deal linebacker Azeez Ojulari at the 2024 trade deadline and subsequently lost him to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, netting them very little outside of a name in the compensatory pick formula.

General manager Joe Schoen reportedly had an offer for a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft but because Kayvon Thibodeaux was injured at the time, rebuffed the trade. It was the second consecutive year he had made that error in judgment.

If that pill weren't hard enough to swallow, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports the Giants attempted to re-sign Ojulari this offseason but were rejected. He instead opted to join running back Saquon Barkley and cornerback Adoree' Jackson in Philly.

The Giants tried to re-sign Ojulari, according to a league source. The terms of their offer are unknown, but Ojulari chose to join the Super Bowl champs, where he’ll have an opportunity to thrive as a pass-rush specialist on a loaded defense.

Although Ojulari's departure was expected, it feels a bit more sour after learning the Giants failed to trade him and then attempted to retain him. The fact that he went to Philly, where he'll undoubtedly rediscover his health and pass-rushing prowess, only adds to things.

The Giants, meanwhile, remain on the hunt to find additional depth along the edge even after signing Chauncey Golston.
