Report: Walker trade down to three teams

The Eagles, the Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers are regarded in news reports as the leading suitors for disgruntled wide receiver Javon Walker, who has asked the Green Bay Packers to trade him. The Eagles quietly wouldn’t confirm or deny interest in Walker, who still isn’t all the way back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained in the 2005 regular season opener.

Kennard McGuire, the agent for Walker, could not be reached for comment.

The Packers have said they aren’t interested in giving Walker away amid a broadcast report that a couple of second round choices might appease the Cheeseheads.

It’s more likely the Packers would have to take a conditional pick or picks should they change their minds and unload Walker.

There is speculation the Packers will show their hand the week before the April 29-30 NFL Draft.

The Eagles contemplated trading up to draft Florida State’s Walker in the first round of the 2002 lottery but stood pat to take cornerback Lito Sheppard off the board with the 26th overall selection. Sheppard and Walker were voted to the Pro Bowl team during the 2004 season.

Walker (6-3, 215) was the prototype West Coast weapon that year, catching 89 passes for 1,382 yards (15.5 yards-per-reception) and 12 touchdowns in a dozen starts with the Packers. He had nine TD’s and averaged 17.5 yards per grab the previous year, starting three of 16 games.

The Eagles have made no secret of their intention of upgrading the wide receiver position after getting rid of temperamental superstar Terrell Owens, now a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

The Eagles visited last week with collegians Maurice Stovall (Notre Dame, Archbishop Carroll) and Sinorice Moss (Miami). The Eagles also will meet with Chad Jackson (Florida), who a 4.32 40-yard dash at the scouting combine.

Interesting... The 49'ers have the most to offer, but I doubt Walker wants to be there.

The 49ers won't offer their first-round pick for him, but I wonder if the Broncos really wanted him they wouldn't have signed him to an offer sheet before they traded with the Falcons. Walker would have been way better than any two players they would have gotten in the 20s.

That said, the 49ers have Antonio Bryant now. Both him and Walker would be really dangerous, but I don't think they'll pay more than a 2nd to get him, and I don't think they'll even do that. What's frightening is an offense of Kevan Barlow, Antonio Bryant, and Vernon Davis.

Regardless of who is quarterback.

???

Walker is still under contract for another year, so how would they sign him to an offer sheet?

Are you sure? I thought he was their franchise designate player this year... Hmm... I guess I was wrong.

Disagree. Alex Smith is terrible and until they improve at QB, that offense will continue to suck bad.

And Barlow isn't the guy that the Niners will be starting at RB at the end of the year. Frank Gore was much more impressive, and if he stays healthy, he should push Barlow out of the mix for San Francisco.

Big if though he had surgery on both shoulders after the season and reportedly has to have one of his knees drained regularly. Too bad I've always loved Gore and he really was impressive last year but one has to wonder how long he'll hold up? I think they ought to platoon him and Barlow, if they just make Gore the main guy I don't see him lasting too long.

Agreed on Smith, I realize he was in a horrible situation, no good WR's, new coach, new offense, rookie, beat up OL early in the year, but I can't recall ever seeing an NFL QB look that scared. I've seen a lot of lousy QB play in my time as a Card fan but I never ever saw a QB so consistently panicked, at times Smith looked like a HS player would look out there.

Since 49er's just lost their 2 and 3 pick to the Broncos, than they've might have lost out on the race for Walker.

Which means that Denver now has the resources to acquire him. I look for him to be a Bronco next year.

49ers had 2 3rd rounders. Now they have 2 - 1st rounders, 0 - 2nd Rounders, and 1 - 3rd rounder.

would you spend a 1st round pick on somebody coming back from acl surgery. i wouldn't. i would spend a second day pick on somebody like walker.

culpepper was traded for a second. culpepper is a whole lot better than walker. walker had one good season before he went down. he still a boom or bust because of his injury.
