Stout said:Because, and he was quoted as saying this, Peter Jackson never liked the scouring, so he never filmed it.
OMG!!! Go READ the books! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!offset said:i never read the books....what is the scouring?

Chandler Mike said:When the four hobbits return from Minas Tirith to the Shire, it's been overrun by evil men ( I think men, or orcs, who knows...evil hobbits too)...and the four hobbits having been through what they have been, basically get a group of good guys together and get rid of all the evil from the shire.
Pretty cool...it's amazing to see the transformation that they go through during the book...they leave all timid and happy, and come back like warriors and kick some tail...

Stout said:See, Saruman's death scene is drastically different in the movie...in the book, it was an ironic period at the end of the scouring of the shire...Wormtongue ended up stabbing him in the back and fleeing. No idea yet what they're doing with it in the extended version, but probably different.

Even Tolkein himself said the books would never make good movies the way they were written.
Evil Ash said:As proven with the cartoon versions that came out while Tolkein was still alive. Those were awful

What I like when I watch the Documentaries on how they adapt things from the book to the screen, they explain WHY they did it.
And I think it's pretty cool how they kept important things from the books, but maybe put them in a different place, just because it was an important quote.
In the book, at the end when Frodo is on the boat, and is approaching the undying lands, he says
"the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass...white shores...far green country...under a swift sunrise..."
Might not fit at the end, but they have Gandalf say it to Pippen in Minas Tirith when he talks about not being afraid of death.
See, that just shows me how faithful Jackson and his writers were to trying to keep the theme of the book there, but did it despite changing things.
I just love them!

Stout said:Um, gee Miike, I wasn't ripping on the movie in the slightest with my last statement...just giving the difference. I'm thrilled Saruman's fall will be in the movie, and look forward to seeing how it's staged, actually.
I, too, love how things are managed to fit, even in the wrong places. Fellowship did this perfectly. I mean, I didn't have a single complaint coming out of Fellowship. ROTK did a very good job as well, but not quite as good. Some things were changed that, even movie-wise, would have been better in a different way. Much in TT was done wrong, flat-out wrong.
Still, I have the movie, love it, and watch it too. I'll have ROTK soon, and I'll cherish all of them. You may feel free to get off my back now, Mr. Overreaction
Groovy! I still do love them, and there are parts that just make me want to take the bastard sword down off my wall, charge into the street, and start running around screaming...but I sit and watch insteadChandler Mike said:
Sorry, lol...I always felt like you never really enjoyed them...but I've been mistaken!
Glad you love them, like I do. I swear...I watch them and get so emotionally attached to the characters...to Theoden's charge and death scene...to Samwise picking Frodo up and carrying him...etc.
Anyways, I'm glad you love them too, and only wish you lived out here so you could join Fischer and me for our Marathon of the Rings on the 28th
Consider me off your back
