Raiders | Gannon Release Could Be Necessary - from www.KFFL.com
Sat, 22 Jan 2005 22:23:26 -0800

Bill Soliday, of InsideBayArea.com, reports Oakland Raiders QB Rich Gannon's contract calls for $8 million in 2005. Thus, the team may have no choice but to release him if he attempts to come back from a broken neck at the age of 39.

I see a potential red flag there somewhere.

The Cards will definitely bring in a veteran and Ganon would be a good fit if he can pass the physical, but that's a big if.

I mentioned Gannon last year as a good prospect. He is old but all he is needed for is to be a mentor for a year for the QB I hope we draft in round one. He can be a Hart for the new Lomax. Gannon has been a good QB. He has the skills and knowledge to help a rookie. He has won too.

I read somewhere that Gannon didn't like how his playing days in Minny ended when he and Green were together in the 90's.

I've read Gannon more than once say he hated Green when he got rid of him, but to this day credits green with making him a better QB. so I honestly don't know if he holds a grudge against him now or not.

McNair Anyone?

I cought the tail end of a Chris Mortensen report, and thought I heard that the Titans are rumored to feel McNair might not be the perfect fit for their new offensive scheme and, therefore, might be considered a cap casualty.

Hmmmm! Sounds suspiciously like the stars coming into alignment regarding Dennis' MO and Cards' QB situation.

Sure, why not. Let's also bring in Doug Flutie. Maybe we can lure Steve Deberg and Dave Krieg out of retirement? We could call our QB stable the "Early Bird Special"....

He will be a good pickup but only if he is healthy. And we need to shore up the Oline so he doesn't get killed here.

McNair? Certainly!!!!!!!!!!The only QB out there posters have brought onto the board worth mentioning, well, besides McCown.

I think Mortensen was saying that McNair might retire now that Heimerdinger has gone to the Jets. I doubt McNair will be released.

The Titans are what 15-17 million in cap hell again this offseason? Plus the fact that his backup played good this last year and Mcnair has been injured a lot too. Stranger things have happened.

It is funny how any post about a FA QB always has to lead back to McCown apologists bringing him up. It is like we live in an age where nobody is held responsible for their bad performances anymore. It is insanity. I am talking abouting politics, business , etc too. There is always some kind of excuse of how it is somebody elses fault or this is all going according to plan. I cant wait for the next training camp so that terrible QB can finally be sent packing and I will not have to hear about how great McCown is.

This talk of Mccown as the QB of the future reminds me of the saying: "Dont pee down my leg and tell me it is raining".

Hey, i predicted/wanted that in an earlier post ;) .He would be the perfect guy.I would give up our #1 pick for him. He won't retire and a new start would re-energize him. What better place to do it than in Arizona.

Give McCown some time. Why is it every other QB is allowed to have time for growing pains and not Josh? Josh had his first full year at QB in a new system everyone was learning also. Josh has a great arm, heart, and he's got a good head on his shoulders. Sure I've seen the games on TV,and don't think I didn't get POed a couple of times.
