Even if Chandler plays out his contract this year with the Suns, I think he could be a valuable mentor for Ayton. He doesn't bring much to the table on the floor any more but I believe he's a great locker room presence with so many young players. Plus he's kind of an enforcer type and if you watch all of Bookers scuffles last year Chandler and JJ were always the first to his side. That's got to have value to a guy we just signed to the max.
Meh. Tyson has not seemed to be that valuable of a mentor while he has been here and indications are that he is not really interested in being here anymore. I would waive him if I can't buy him out.

I want our players to come to a teammates side when there is an altercation on the floor however I don't think it matters who is first or last to get there. No one is throwing punches or fighting in the NBA. It probably helps build chemistry though when players do get in an altercation and their teammates come to their defense. I would rather not see someone walk the other way like Lonzo Ball did last year when someone on the Lakers got in an altercation with someone. As a rookie, that's not sending the right message to your teammates. Lonzo even commented and said that no one was going to fight and that's why he went the other way. While I understand that is true, no one is actually going to fight, even saying that could send the wrong message to your teammates. Doing and saying that as a rookie or young player is stupid for many reasons. How do they know what the NBA is like? They've watched games but are just starting to play in them and should be saying what does and does not happen. It's also similar to saying their teammate is a chicken, coward, or that they're all talk.

Ultimately, a player's teammates should come to the circle or group that forms and try to separate them. How quickly they get there or who shows up first doesn't matter. That is not worth a roster spot, a starting job, or even extra playing time. It should be second nature to stand up for your teammates, in a reasonable way. No one should be applauded for doing that. It's 2018, the NBA does a good job of keeping fights from happening in general. It's no longer the 70's or 80's, when players would get the snot beat out of each other.

IIRC, Dudley walked towards Canaan when he broke his ankle. I appreciated that.

I'm not a fan of the stretch provision when a player has 1 year remaining. Buy them out and be done with it. Maybe if it's a small deal then spreading the cost can help, Boston used it on a player that only had about $80,000 guaranteed in their contract but it had 2 years remaining. The guaranteed amount is all that counts though and they stretched it over 5 years which caused a cap hit of $17 thousand for 5 years. It freed up just enough to squeeze Haywards contract in last year. With Chandler and the Suns though, pay him so we can move on. You don't want to be out $4.5 million for the next 2 seasons, I know it's 3 years in total but 2 beyond this season. That money would have helped at the beginning of free agency, not now.
Agreed. It's painful down the road when these decisions are still haunting us. I'd rather take the hit up front.

There is every indication the Suns are trying to have as much cap space as possible space for next year. I don't see anyway they stretch anyone this year, next year Knight could be a candidate to get stretched if they need to maximize their capspace.

I love bringing in a young, high motor big to spell Ayton and compete with Chriss and Bender for minutes.

I looked it up and Holmes to make 1.6 million this season and then is unrestricted free agent afterwards. So you can try this guy out as a backup center on the cheap to really see if he is a hidden gem. If not you can let him go.

I am skeptical of Bender getting traded. Igor seems to have plans for him. With Chandler taking games off, and with Ayton being a rookie, you dont want to burn him out with too many minutes. So nights that Chandler takes off I could see an Ayton/Harrison rotation at center. That would not affect Chris/Bender plus whoever minutes at PF.

I know this is only temporary move but he has shown signs of being a legit 10 and 5 guy. Not great but I will take that as backup material at the PF/C position. If he pushes the others on the roster to either show some progress or move on that is good too.

Holmes came surprising reasonable and he should be more than sufficient as a backup center when the Suns rest Chandler on back-to-back games.

Somewhat concerning especially only 6 games into the season. They have a point that he should be getting minutes over Chandler as Chandler has appeared to be in no shape to play any mins anymore.

I agree that he should be used in place of Chandler but he's going about it the wrong way. It's one thing for his family to tweet things about the rotation and organization but he needs to speak up in practice, not Twitter.

Edit: My mistake, I thought it was him sending tweets but it's his brother Richard, his name is Richaun, Easy to mix those up. Glad it's not him sending those tweets but he probably feels the same way.

Hopefully we'll see Richaun more soon. I liked his energy in preseason. He does a better job of spelling Ayton than Chandler and would help the Suns maintain a similar style for 48 minutes. Chandler is done and should only be used in back to backs.

Chandler hasn't been a problem. He has certainly looked long in the tooth, but he isn't close to the detriment several players are.

What little I've seen of Holmes has yielded unsurprising play. Yes, he hustles, he also doesn't seem to have a freaking clue what he's doing. He's so regularly and so obviously out of position on both ends that it's like a really tall fan has wondered onto the court. The Sixers giving him away for less than nothing is not a mystery.

Come on, with Holmes and Jackson running around full speed without a clue where they're going there is a chance they'll collide with our opponents best player and make them sit due to the concussion protocol. It's worth a shot.

Chandler is done. Even my wife who doesn't follow anything in sports has noticed his decline. He can't protect against the lob and finish on his end anymore. And he never had an away from the basket game to begin with, so he can't fall back on that like some other bigs in their decline. He also has a couple of fouls a game where he knows he's been beat and fouls anyway for an and1.

Not worried about Richaun's family being frustrated about his playing time. I would be surprised if they were NOT frustrated. Thats the way it is with athletes and their families.

Yep. From every level you want your kid to get playing time.
