As much as I'd like to believe it was rigged, a legit accounting firm audits the process. No way they risk their business over a sports lottery.

Correct and no way does someone like Sarver or Cuban just sit there while preferential treatment is handed out to select franchises.

I don't want to ever see a tank thread again. This is why.

You better close your eyes then because if we stink again you are going to see one. Maybe sooner than you think if we don't draft Jackson.

Knicks had the second worst record two years ago and fell to fourth just like us right?

Yep. Minnesota was worst and kept #1 while LAL and Philly jumped over them (can't remember if there were trades involved offhand).

The draft was at the Barclays Center as well, so in the Knicks backyard.

They ended up drafting Porzingis - probably the best thing they've done in a couple decades?

If they don't want to damage their product they do.

Sarver might take one for the league if he thought it was in the overall best interest but Cuban, no way. And he's already demonstrated that in the past, just look at his very public outburst when it looked like the Lakers were being gifted Chris Paul.

I think Cuban might be the only guy. But even he's been much more of a company man over the last several years. With stern gone Cuban is more mainstream then rebel these days.

Does it feel rigged? Yes.
Do the Suns ever catch a break? No.
Is Magic Johnson's power of belief better than the Suns' braintrust? Apparently.
Is it actually rigged? No. Watch for yourselves:

If you're not saying that tongue in cheek, why was it recorded that Magic Johnson told Coach Luke Walton that he guaranteed that the Lakers would get one of the top two picks?

I heard an interesting rumor that the league heats the slip they want picked for easy pickin's.

man... I just saw that video for the first time. I had read the comment and totally assumed he was saying it tongue-in-cheek... but either Walton literally has the WORST sense of humor, or there's something super weird about the way he answered that. Sure didn't seem like he was kidding.

There aren't any slips to heat. You can rig anything on television but there's a live audience that includes people who the rigging would hurt. The drawing is done by drawing four numbered balls from among 14. There are 1001 such combinations of 4 numbers. Each of the 14 teams is assigned the number of combinations that is appropriate for their stated odds. One combination is not used and if it shows up they redraw. IIRC, the balls are tested for uniformity in size and weight so eliminating crude mechanical fixes. The companies that supply the equipment do lots of lottery type drawings so they're going to be careful of their reputation. At least so one imagines.

Now, once Monk detected a rigged lottery - I think they used radioactive paint on some of the balls so those wouldn't be selected or maybe so they would be - it triggered an air jet that blew the ball away from the selection opening. Something along that line...
