Take care, Steve. Sorry you're going through that.

Thanks, it's been a very long term problem. I've had it easier the past several years though once I realized how much my own diet contributed to the pain. If I can keep myself away from foods that cause inflammation it's a bit more manageable. Unfortunately, I tend to love the foods that cause inflammation (meat, sweets, salt, fried food, bread, dairy etc).

I hear you. Aren't there foods and/or supplements to cut down on inflammation? Like D vitamin and fish oil (not in soybean oil).

I know I'm in the minority here but I'm not a believer in supplements. Fish oil and Vitamin D in their natural packaging are great but as a supplement I think they are expensive and mostly useless - sometimes dangerous. Supplements, when taken to replace an identified deficiency (such as Iron) they have some value but nutrition through diet is always far superior IMO. But, all that aside, eating a steak or ice cream won't be nullified by taking some fish oil or vitamin D. If you suffer from certain kinds of chronic pain and you're dumb enough to eat like this (and I am) you're going to pay a price for it (and I am).

Sounds like IBS/Crohn's?

My brother has Crohn's. He continues to eat complete crap and just deal with the pain. hes a strange dude.

Like not even an attempt to eat healthier. Straight up dollar store microwave burritos, burgers and pizzas for breakfast, hanburger helpers and stuff for dinner, 1-2 2 liters of pepsi a day

we harp on him all the time because a healthy diet would eliminate half of his issues but to no avail.

I can see why you'd guess that but it's not. It turns out that just about any kind of neurological problem can be exacerbated by consuming foods that cause inflammation.

In my case, I lost a leg to cancer in 1976 and while all amputees deal with occasionally recurring pain, in about 10% of the cases involving above-the-knee amputations the patient ends up with severe chronic pain for no specific reason. The inflammation doesn't necessarily cause my pain, it just tends to intensify and prolong the episodes.

Gotcha. Sorry to hear.

Every try small doses of marijuana for anti inflammatory properties?

Either way - keep on keepin on, friend.

I use to smoke pot for the pain, it provided far better relief than morphine ever has. Unfortunately, the VA doesn't hand that stuff out. I cry a little inside every time I hear some expert say it doesn't provide pain relief.

I just read an article that he was trying to get help. Evidently, the entire cast and crew knew he had a problem and when he took a break last season it was because of a cast and production intervention. They said he took ZERO convincing and was willing to do it no questions asked. Everyone thought he was doing better but fell off the wagon again since getting out of rehab.

I can almost guarantee it's his friends that made it easy for him to get back into it. I had a buddy who kicked a habit and was having zero problems until he started hanging out with old buddies. He fell right back into it because his friends kept waiving it in his face which made it next to impossible to resist for him. He thought he could resist regardless of what his friends were doing, he was wrong.
