James Arness of 'Gunsmoke' fame dies at 88

CBS spokesman Chris Ender says former "Gunsmoke" star James Arness has died at age 88.

Ender had no further details, but Arness' official website said the actor died Friday of natural causes.

Arness played U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon in the 1955-75 CBS Western series that ran on CBS from 1955 to 1975, becoming the longest-running dramatic series in network history until NBC's "Law & Order" tied.

Never realized he was Peter Graves' older brother.

Peter passed away last March.

As a kid I watched a ton of Marshal Dillon...he was one of my early heroes. You youngsters can't imagine listening to it on the radio before my family could afford a TV.

The other two were Rowdy Yates played by Eastwood in Rawhide and Richard Boone in Have Gun will Travel

I grew up on these shows...loved them....hate to admit I liked Carol Burnett Show, but I did
