James Lipton, the host and creator of "Inside the Actors Studio" has died at the age of 93.

Lipton died in his Manhattan home on Monday after a battle with bladder cancer, his wife Kedakai Mercedes Lipton said.

A writer and producer, Lipton joined the Actors Studio in 1992 and went on to create "Inside the Actors Studio," a series of seminars for drama students consisting of lengthy one-on-one conversations with performers about craft. The series debuted in 1994 on Bravo.

I used to watch this show religiously. Seems like he never aged. Was a little shocked for some reason when I heard he passed. I didn't even realize he was 93. He had so many memorable episodes with so many iconic actors.

I seriously believed he had died years ago. I could have swore I remembered hearing that, but maybe was confusing him with the guy who hosted the Turner Classic Movies show.

In any case, he had a pretty interesting life story and was a something of a Renaissance man, if sounded like.
