He gets little credit as a guitar god, but he is actually right up there with guys like Hendrix and Van Halen.

He gets a lot of credit from guitarists... At least the forums I visit.

There are a ton of guys who can play great.... a few who can play at that level, and sing/write produce..

But I can't think of another artist in history, that was near as multi-talented as Prince.

He could sing, write great songs....Dance/Entertain like a ****... and play almost any instrument known to mankind at an extremely high level.

The other day I heard a radio DJ mention an interview with Eric Clapton where he was asked what is it was like to be the greatest guitar player in the world. Eric's response was... "I wouldn't know, ask Prince".

I hope that's a true story and not folklore because that's a really cool answer to a pretty dumb question.

I don't know about best but I do know Eric once claimed that Don McLean was his favorite guitarist (or something like that). And I also know that the legend of Prince is being grossly exaggerated these days. Very talented and very versatile but nowhere near the best guitar player ever IMO.

It's truly what I despise about social media these days. I am constantly bombarded on social media all these heart felt stories, quotes etc....and often they are complete fabrications. Maybe the intention is just to make people feel better about certain situations but it's turned me into a giant skeptic every time someone posts something like that. My first reaction is now often...nice story..but I am sure it's B.S.

You're right but I think "not the best guitar player" is a much safer call.

Oh, I wouldn't declare Prince the "G.O.A.T." when it comes to guitar. but, I do think he was great enough to get onstage with anyone and hold his own.

Here is what Eric Clapton said about Prince after his death. It's actually better than the fake quote.

I thought he was not just technically great with the guitar but incredibly entertaining. I loved watching him play.

IMO Prince's music isn't really "guitar" music like a lot of the typically regarded great guitar players. He presented himself more as a multi-instrumentalist songwriter/showman than a guitarist, so he is often overlooked next to the Van Halen's of the world. But Prince was pretty darn versatile and a master of creating tasteful guitar parts to fit each particular song. He isn't my personal favorite, but he's probably in my top 10, maybe even top 5 depending on my musical mood.

I know I'm being overly sensitive.... But I can't stand that the Media/ General Public mostly point to his work on "While my guitar gently weeps" With Petty, Winwood etc...as his pinnacle/signature guitar work.

It was a great performance, no doubt..... But not even in his top 30 for impressive guitar work (IMO)

Prescription opiates found on the body of Prince and in his house.

These drugs are an epidemic of overdoses. How long do doctors keep prescribing them like candy?

I have no idea how they are able to continue doing it. I often wonder how many people on the road are hopped up on the RX's. It might explain a lot of the behavior I witness on the streets of Phoenix.

It really isn't all that easy for the average, law-abiding person to get large quantities of Morphine, Percocet, Vicodin, Oxycontin, Oxycodone and other similar drugs.

Making it even harder to get a painkiller prescription just adds stress to the lives of people that struggle with chronic pain. I guarantee those people are sick and tired of jumping through hoops to get their prescriptions written and filled simply because some people choose to use those same drugs to get high. And I'm just guessing but I suspect most of the people that die from it usually do so because they are mixing it with alcohol or sleeping pills and the like.

I begrudge no one for seeking out relief for chronic pain.

Without straying too far off topic, over-prescription is a serious problem and the use of opiates for the treatment of chronic pain is at best, controversial. Many are absolutely abusing without the blessing of their doctors, but there is much room for improvement on the medical side.

Some more on the subject:

Maybe not all.

It appears Prince died without leaving a will ... as a result his 6 siblings -- even the half brothers and sisters -- could split a fortune.

How the heck does he not have a will? You'd think with his net worth he would have financial advisers taking care of these things.

Sadly, most people do not have a will. It is a little more surprising for someone with a valuable estate, future earnings from music, etc. to not have one though. Where the heck were his "advisers" on this? SMH.

Heard somewhere that he didn't trust anyone, so thats why he never signed anything, including a will

Yeah, I'm not real surprised. He was not normal, so common sense stuff like this... not so important to people like Prince.

Or Snoop Dogg - who sounds like a real idiot in this article...

(language, of course)

Snoop Dogg told us why he doesn't have a will

http://www.businessinsider.com/snoop-dogg-hasnt-left-a-will-butterfly-reincarnate-estate-2016-5

Why does this not surprise me?

Why bother taking the time to make sure your family (or favorite charity) get your wealth, when you can let the state figure it out for you? :doi:

I think his reasoning is just to cover up the obvious.

♫ I was gonna write a will...but then I got high ♫
