Rivals thought Toro Rosso was 'crazy' to pick Honda F1 engines

Honda's performance in the 2018 Formula 1 season was a "highlight" for Toro Rosso because rival teams thought it was "totally crazy" to choose the engine manufacturer. Toro Rosso swapped Renault engines for Honda for this year after the Japanese company finally split with McLaren following three tough campaigns. McLaren slated Honda for poor performance and reliability but this year Honda regrouped alongside Toro Rosso, scored the best result since returning to F1 in 2015 and convinced Red Bull to join its junior team in using Honda's engines next season.
