Trade Unit to the Yankees for Contrares and some prospects, plus get Yankees to pay half of his contract. With the savings from Unit, sign two of these FA pitchers: Pavano, Ortiz, Odalis Perez, Benson, Morris, etc.

Rotation next year:
FA
FA
Contreras
Webb
???

No way! :thumbdown

There are some who believe he (Contreras) could be as old as 36....

Is that you Gambo? Contreras is old and overpaid and the Yankees don't have any prospects. Trading RJ to the Yankees would not only piss off the already dwindling fan base but also be stupid for the long-term success of the team. Anaheim, Philadelphia, even Boston would be a better fit than the Yankees unless it's a three way.

Ugh, I'm not sure if this is media spin or what, but ESPN is reporting Johnson has asked for a trade to the Yankees.....

That is why I posted what I did. I am not Gambo, but I did listen to him today. The Yankee prospects suck, so Contreras makes sense, regardless of age. We can't give Randy away for guys who may never help us win a game. We did that with Schilling. If we do it with Unit also, then that is when the fans will go away. Randy wants out now! Our hands are tied.

They are just reporting a rumor from the NY Daily News (not the most reliable of sources ... well known for making up rumors). Some of their guys from Baseball Tonight basically shot it down.

The reason this rumor came about was nothing more than speculation as to what Joe Jr and RJ talked about for an hour a couple of days ago.

No actually the Dbacks have the power right now. RJ signed his contract and has to live up to his end of it. The Dbacks don't have to trade him.

He doesn't have much power at the moment (other than naming a team he wants to be traded to)

I'm sorry. He also said that Kobe and McGrady were going to be playing for the Suns next season.

That's what will happen if we trade Johnson to the Yankees. Their prospects are completely worthless.

Our hands are tied.

No they're not. If we don't get a good deal, then he stays. I repeat, barring a three way trade, that trading Johnson to the Yankees would be the stupidest move the DBacks could make. There's better deals out there.

And how is this different that the Curt Schilling situation?

oh yeah - the D-Backs wanted to dump Curt so they could rent Richie Sexson for one year.

The difference is that Johnson is under contract for next year. Schilling was going to be a free agent after this season and asked to be traded before the season. If Schilling would have left after this year, then they would have received nothing in return, not that they got a whole lot anyway.

In hindsight for all the garbage we got, we should have kept him 1 more year and then let him walk

Are you thinking like Colangelo? Trading to Trade?

I'd rather have them trade RJ for sh... Contreas makes so much, he's what 40 years old? Why don't we just trade RJ for Henderson, (Sign and trade) Orosoco, and then throw Cedeno in the deal and then we have the future!

Contreas is no future. He'd be nice for a season, maybe. I'd rather see a rotation of (No particular order)- Good, Gonzalez, Webb, Aquino, and ___.

I'd rather see RJ traded for SOMETHING.

As much as I like Hairston and his potential we should have done the deal when we coulda got Soriano but Randy was hurt. The Yankess can give us nothing. Send RJ to the Angels and at least get Ortiz and either Salmon or Glaus etc..

Phill, with your rotation, we would lose 110 games next year.

From a purely business standpoint, trading RJ to the Yankees suck. They don't have any good prospects to deal for him. I'd rather we sent RJ to a team with a bunch of players in their farm system who are ready to make a difference in the next 2-3 years.

Anaheim by far is the best place to trade Unit. Great farm system!

Anaheim is the only place I want to see randy go to. Anheim has a very deep minor league system where they can give us 3-4 top flite prospects and someone like john lackey for randy.

A season and a half is not that different from a full season. Both are different from a deadline rent-a-play deal for a playoff run.

With your rotation we'd have a 50 year old man as our ace losing 25 games a year, along with being paid 10+ Million.

But seriously. I'd rather see young guys pitching rather than Contreas. We shouldn't trade RJ just to trade him. What would we be getting in the deal you said? Nothing. That's crazy.

Like I just said to Dave, I'd rather see young guys pitching rather than washed up 40 year old guys who get paid a ton.

If we trade RJ we need to get something in return.

Y'know, even if Randy suddenly lost his ability to dominate for 7-8-9 innings, he could be a helluva closer for the following 3-4 years (barring injury).
