Sorry. I was trying to match the tone (and subject matter) of the first post. I certainly wasn't trying to get into a discussion about the intricacies of small ball.

All I'm saying is, the difference between Archibald this year and Voskuhl two years ago is very slight. Replace Brian Cook with Rip Hamilton, and Jerry West with Jerry Krause, and they're difficult to distinguish from one another.

Since the Suns have already had success in developing a useful center from this kind of raw material, I don't see why any of you would be writing Archibald off after a few preseason games.

That's all.

Archibald's last season at Illinois: 10.6/5.5 on 65% shooting in 26 min./game
Voskuhl's last season at UConn: 8.5/6.4 on 57% shooting in 21 min./game

Okay, fair enough. But if he doesn't get action in preseason games, I can't imagine how the Suns have any plan for developing him.

Maybe you think this but I recall Jake's early games with Suns and there is no comparison with how Archibald looked last night. Jake started a dozen or so games for the team and while he did foul more than one liked he played fairly solid. Immediately there were people saying he looked like he could be a capable backup and others thought he was a better choice to start than Big Jake.
(The sad thing about Jake is that after the good beginning Skiles and then FJ didn't play him when they well could have so his progress was slowed.)

Exactly. Jake Voskuhl played surprisingly well when he first arrived here in Phoenix. Most of us also didn't realize until we saw him play that he is quite athletic for a big, white guy. Robert Archibald on the other hand is as athletic as Big Jake and as foul prone as Alton Ford.

That pretty well covers it:D

On the other hand, check out Big Jake's game the other night when he started...

23min, 2-2FG, 3-6 FT, 1 O Reb, 6 D Reb, 7 Reb Tot 4 Fouls, 3 BS

Not sure if he was in the game at crunch time plus we all know 6-1 preseason record means as much as 2-6:)
