Looks more and more like my boy Leon Joe is going to get a pretty big shot at making this team and getting playing time.

I like Leon Joe as well, the Bears fans liked him too, good ST's guy like Woods should have been. Purely a depth move here.

I bet

there is this player right now named Clement working his ass off at the Cardinal facility hoping he is not next. I love Green's lack of patience. :D

So we released another guy Graves foolishly gave a contract extension to under the Mac era?

Jeez, the 2003 season was perhaps the biggest comedy of errors in NFL history. Imagine if we hadn't drafted Anquan.

The most important move that Rod Graves made pre-Denny Green has been... Extending the contract of punter Scott Player. A legacy of success!

CARDINALS MAKE ROSTER MOVES
Tempe, AZ – The Arizona Cardinals today announced that the team has signed guard Jeremy Bridges and cornerback Robert Tate to one-year contracts. Bridges was an exclusive rights free agent while Tate was an unrestricted free agent. In accordance with club policy the terms of both contracts were not disclosed.

The team also announced that it has released linebackers Ray Thompson and LeVar Woods.

Bridges appeared in 14 games in 2004 with eight starts at right guard after being claimed off of waivers from Philadelphia on September 6. The former Southern Mississippi product was selected by the Eagles in the sixth round (185th overall) of the 2003 draft and was inactive for all 16 regular season contests and both postseason contests for Philadelphia in 2003.

Tate played in all 16 games as a reserve defensive back and on special teams for the Cardinals in 2004 after being signed as a free agent by Arizona on February 26, 2004. He finished last season with five tackles on defense and three on special teams after being out of football in 2003. In his seven seasons in the NFL, Tate has appeared in 96 games (24 starts) recording 136 tackles (115 solo), 3 interceptions, 29 passes defensed, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery. He was originally drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the sixth round (183rd overall) of the 1997 draft. He played five seasons with the Vikings (1997-2001) and one season with Baltimore (2002) before joining the Cardinals last year.

Thompson was originally drafted by the Cardinals in the second round (41st overall) of the 2000 draft out of Tennessee. He appeared in 11 games in 2004 (three starts) recording 42 tackles (33 solo) with one sack. In five seasons with Arizona, Thompson played in 65 games with 54 starts at outside linebacker recording 443 tackles (259 solo), and 6.5 sacks.

Woods, who originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent from Iowa in 2001, finished his fourth season with the Cardinals in 2004 by appearing in 14 games (two starts) with 20 tackles and two passes defensed. In 60 career NFL games (seven starts), Woods has collected 96 tackles (52 solos), 1.5 sacks, and 4 fumble recoveries along with 54 special teams tackles

i read on the azcardinals board that ray thompson was released, i don't know how much truth there is to that rumor, but releasing lb's and signing corners could say something about where we're going in the draft.
Disclaimer-all of you 1st rd cb people don't jump down my throat, i know we need a cb or two, just not in the first if it means passing on dj.

I thought that ASFN was no longer given "press access" from the Cardinals??

We don't but we still get press releases. We often don't bother putting them up because the Cards are slow getting them out but Madcard's post higher up in this thread is the official press release.

Usually, the info is on radio half an hour before we get it and somebody posts it. We then follow up and confirm.

I was waiting for Green to re-sign Tate so no surprise there. The Vikings drafted him as a WR and after two seasons moved him to CB when they had injury problems. He actually started but was nothing special. Gives us some experience and depth but CB is still a big need for the Cards.

Robert Tate:
Pro Career: Six-year veteran with Minnesota (1997–2001) and Baltimore (2002) signed as free agent with Arizona on Feb. 26, 2004 … double duty as both defensive back and kickoff returner … in 80 pro games (24 starts), owns 110 solo tackles, 21 assists, 3 interceptions, 22 pass deflections, and 1 fumble recovery … special teams duty includes 54 kickoff returns for 1,222 yards (22.6-yard average) with one touchdown and 30 tackles on kick coverage units … originally selected by Vikings in sixth round (183rd overall, 19th cornerback chosen) of 1997 NFL Draft, the highest NFL draft choice used on an offensive player from the University of Cincinnati since 1970 when wide receiver/kicker Jim O’Brien was selected in the third round by the Baltimore Colts … early pro career featured multi-dimensional talents at wide receiver, defensive back, and as punt and kickoff returner …converted from wide receiver to defensive back midway through 1999 season when he became only the second player in Viking history to record a pass reception and pass interception in same season.

It says he was the 19th cornerback taken in the draft. That makes no sense if you read the rest. He was drafted as a wr in 1997 and converted to cb in 1999. az jam
