Eh, I'm not excited that he's back. How many NTs do you keep on a roster?
At least 3 - at least going into Camp. NT is a "collision" position. The last thing you'd want to do is go into Camp with 2 nose tackles and have one of them injured for the season. (The only worse nightmare I can think of is if one of those 2 NT's was a rookie and the veteran was the one who got hurt).

Also - one of the nice things about some DT's is that you can always use them outside in a 3-4. (Since Robinson's weight is somewhere around 300, he'd be the most likely of the three to join Branch to be available to play both positions. What you might, therefore, wind up with is (with the proviso that no hotshot backup shoulders his way onto the roster):

DE - Dockett, Branch
NT - Williams, Watson
DE - Campbell, Robinson

Not bad.

Like I said, it doesn't excite me, but I'm not against it as long as it doesn't keep us from signing a good UDFA or street FA. I like him as a locker room guy and as a positive role model for the younger DL, like everyone has said. I just don't want to bring him along if, say, it means we leave a decent UDFA DT prospect unsigned.

You don't think Iwebema makes the two-deep?

Insurance. This is the third straight season Watson has been rehabbing a knee injury.

Bryant Robinson will be 36 years old in June.

The guy is a machine.

This is what pisses me off about Watson. I saw him last season at TC with a brace on his knee limping around like he got struck with a baseball bat. I asked him how the knee was feeling and he hesitantly told me it was fine and not a problem.

Im not a doctor (I just play one on TV) but perhaps he needs to have it reexamined

IMHO if Watson doesn't bring it this year there may be a good chance he's on the outside looking in.

Hat/t-shirt? How do you see the final count working out? Do you think the Cards keep 9 DL? The only way I see it not working out is if Robinson beats out Gabe Watson, which would be a shame.
They won't keep 9 but they will likely keep 7 and that makes room for Robinson. CC, Watson, DD, Iwebema, Williams, Branch, and Robinson. Unless someone out of the blue emerges, Dykes is the only guy to challenge for the last spot.

Did you expect him to say that it hurts, and I might be ineffective this year?

Did we carry 7 last season? Dykes was only active for 2 games; was he on the roster for 16?

This was one of the reasons that I did a 53-man roster. I don't know if you can carry 7 into the regular season. If you do, you might only carry 9 DBs. I think the question is whether you have that 7th DL be effective on special teams. I know that Iwebema plays some special teams.

Agreed but you listed 8 guys do are you thinking that will carry 8 and Dykes might challenge for a spot or 7 in which case someone needs to come off your list?

as it sits now, if we keep 7, Dykes is #8 and the only one who can realistically challenge the other guys for the 7 spot. If they keep only 6 then Dykes is out and likely one of Branch, Watson, Robinson.

9 DB's. I wish there were nine legit DB propsects on the roster. I count only 5 with DRC, Toler, AW, Rhodes, and Ware. The other 4-5 are going to have come from this ragtag group:
Rashard Johnson: likely makes it
Adams: probably make it by default
Calvin: rookie, probably makes it,at least he hasn't shown to be horrible yet.
Jefferson: I'm hoping he shows something and sticks
Abdullah: a butcher
Barksdale/McBride: neither probably have any business being on an NFL roster.

Agreed. I dont have a lot of faith in Gabe coming back to full health any time soon and therefore i think the bringing back of Robinson is a very logical choice.

BTW TJ you are missing a couple of guys of the list on your sig, WR Juamorris Stewart and CB Marshay Green who were both signed as UDFA's at the same time as all the other UDFA's.

Just thought id point that out and make sure we respect all new Cardinal arrivals:raccoon:
