It's on the way this years. I will be really curious to see where the game goes. I am a big fan of Rock Smith but the Rock Band games were pure fun. My kids would jump in and try and play.

Really looking forward to this but something tells me that this will land somewhere between the old Rock Band stuff and Rock Smith. So it will keep with the casual game play with the opportunity to appease more hardcore players.

As long as all of my previous library comes over, the instruments are more durable, and they keep pumping out new music and possibly instruments, I might be interested.

(the video sounds like the previous library comes over)

Yep, that's the way it sounded to me as well. Although, just like in previous installments I am sure there will be casualties. Rights expire on some songs and I am sure that will be the case again.

I am just stoked. I would love to pick up a new and improved drum kit.

I read a statement earlier that their first priority is making sure the songs port to the new version and they are hoping to have the old instruments port too but still have offerings of new instruments.

The other thing is cost. It costs $150-200 or more to get a proper RB setup and that is quite prohibitive these days.

My son got to experience it but my oldest daughter was a tad young. So, it will be fun. Now my little little one will probably get in the way but what are the youngest sibling for? LOL.

At any rate, looking forward to the new instruments. Specifically a new drum set. Hopefully, they are reasonably priced. One thing that would be cool is if they created the drum kit so that it can be used outside of the game. That would definitely drive up the value if it was priced a tad high.

my neighbor has a newer drumset than the one I had and its soooo much better. I had the original and it sounded like beating a drumstick on a hard plastic circle, because that is what it was. The one my neighbor has is very quiet, makes a huge difference.

I remember trying to sleep and my room was next to the living room and you could just hear that banging sound echo through the whole house.

I just picked up the PS4 a few weeks ago (I know, waaaaaay behind), but I will probably be getting this too. Loved it back then and can only imagine how much more advanced #4 will be

START A BAND. ROCK THE WORLD.

Rock Band 4 brings the critically-acclaimed franchise to a new generation of consoles, focusing on the features and gameplay that people love, and expanding the franchise in innovative ways that were informed by how fans play and what they want.

“With Rock Band 4, we’re doubling down on the energy and excitement of playing music live with your friends,” says Harmonix Chief Executive Officer Steve Janiak. “Focusing on the core experience that our fans have told us they love allows us to evolve established gameplay in meaningful ways that we can’t wait to share with everyone later this year.”

“We couldn’t be happier to be working with Harmonix and help bring the band back together for the launch of Rock Band 4,” added Darren Richardson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz. “Harmonix possesses unrivalled passion and vision for music gaming and we can’t wait to introduce the next generation music platform to passionate gamers.”

Harmonix will reveal to its fans more details about exciting new features of Rock Band 4 this coming May.

STILL THE MOST MUSIC. PERIOD.

In addition to a killer on-disc soundtrack, Rock Band 4 will support over 2000 tracks released since the 2007 launch of the original Rock Band, accounting for more than 500 of rock music’s most legendary artists.

“Since the beginning, we’ve called Rock Band a music platform. Players responded by downloading hundreds of their favorite tracks, and building a massive library of playable music,” says Rock Band 4 Product Manager Daniel Sussman. “It’s important for us to respect those purchases and enable our fans to bring that content over to the Rock Band platform on new generation consoles.”

Players who’ve purchased or downloaded playable tracks on last-generation consoles will be able to download and play those tracks on their new platforms at no additional charge*. Hundreds of tracks will be available at launch, with more back catalog music – and new tracks – to be added regularly after launch.

CELEBRATE WITH FREE DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT FOR ROCK BAND 3, AVAILABLE NOW

To celebrate the long-awaited announcement of Rock Band 4, Harmonix is offering a free downloadable track. “I Still Believe,” recorded by UK-based songwriter Frank Turner for his fourth EP, Rock & Roll, is available now for download today, free of charge, on PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360®. Playable today in Rock Band 3 and Rock Band Blitz, this is one of the hundreds of songs that will be compatible with Rock Band 4 when it ships later this year for PlayStation®4 and Xbox One!

Rock Band 4 will be available later this year. For more information, head over to http://www.harmonixmusic.com and follow @RockBand on Twitter for updates.

If I remember correctly, it saves files onto your drive. Just like when they transferred tracks between games before they could see all your content.

I would imagine you will have to have a USB drive or they will figure out a way to save a file to the Cloud so that they know what you purchased and transfer those songs to the new game.

its a new console so saving to the drive wont be a big difference.

I would think it will be like old games you download and delete, when you go to it instead of saying purchase, it says download again. I am sure I can check my purchase history and find them.

So, this is happening. Who wants to party like it's 2007?

You know my problem with games like the new Guitar Hero? They have tried to use video like this in so many games. They all end up being lame because the video clips are extremely repetitive. I have not seen a video game yet utilize video in a way that doesn't get old really quickly.
