thanks for the 2 cents Harry

Do you think its possible for team management ( certainly not the players) to sort of fold or punt on this season unofficially? Maybe use it as a dress rehearsal for next year when there is a little more money and planning time. Maybe use this season to get Moore/Brown/McBride. Its starting to look like that to me.
A reasonable conclusion based on this odd off-season, but with Murray’s & Brown’s salary likely taking huge jumps next year, they may be trying to get prepared for the sticker shock. With the O-line mostly unattached next year and the D-line looking thin it’s hard to believe the Cards can compete in the trenches next season. They continuously struggle to balance the cap with their needs. They show little if any cap creativity as that costs real money. The budget leaves little margin for error.

If they invest huge salary on Murray, they must focus more to improve the line then any other areas
I prefer a healthy and productive Murray with a B+/A offense and a D defense
But Keim thinks he is the smartest gm ever and keep ignoring it
He has the crappy confidence that can get offensive linemen steals later in the draft or getting some gems by other teams cuts
What a joke the extension

It just perplexes knowing we year in and year our face 2 of the toughest Dlines in the league 4 times a year in Rams and 49ers.. not to mention probably the most difficult pass rush schedule here in 2022 in the league based on other opponents, that Kiem thinks this will work.

He often show some self criticism on his interviews but then he act differently
Someone who doesn't learn from his mistakes has very little to offer, except hurting this franchise
But the primary responsibile for this is Bidwill

Lots of old centers.

There's a reason Pugh is open to the idea of moving to C. It's the oldest average position age in the league.
Yep. If you go back over the past five drafts and look at how many of the young centers have ended up good, it's a paltry number.

Run heavy offense, 12 personnel...keep the defense on its heels...that will slow down the pass rush enough to get a few pass plays per drive even with a weak center
You're going to line up and drive other teams off the ball with this line? Lol.

past 5 drafts you say...

2021
Landon Dickerson - 2nd - started 13 games, not at C
Quinn Meinerz - 3rd - started 9 games, not at C
Creed Humphrey - 2nd - Instant hit for KC at C
Josh Myers - 2nd - Started 6 games as a rookie at C

2020
Cesar Ruiz - 1st, starting OG for Saints,
Tyler Biadasz - 4th, starting C for Cowboys
Nick Harris - 5th, slated to battle with Pocic for Browns starting spot

2019
Garrett Bradbury - 1st, starting C for Vikings
Elgton Jenkins - 2nd, starting OG for Packers
Erik McCoy - 2nd, starting C for Saints

2018
Frank Ragnow - 1st, starting C for Lions
Billy Price, 1st, FA

2017
Ethan Pocic - 2nd, on 2nd team

I don't know if saying your assertion is 100% inaccurate is correct since Price is a FA and Pocic is on his 2nd team, but other than those two, every center drafted in rounds 1 and 2 over the past 5 seasons is a starter at C or at OG. So the track record is almost impeccable. Maybe a better position would be to say drafting Cs after round 2 is a crap shoot but taking one high is almost guaranteeing you a quality starter.

heard an interesting theory that the Cardinals might have asked him to restructure his salary and maybe he was insulted by it. Again, a theory but I could see that as the reason.

A restructure shouldn't be an insult. He's not taking less, rather he would probably get more converted to bonus, guarantee to help the cap. Happens all the damn time with players.

There are 13 centers here. Only 6 are starting at C. Only 2 are arguably any good. 3 if we want to be generous and include Biadasz.

I'm not sure 3 of 13 is a good hit rate.

13 college centers drafted in the first two rounds or who are starters. If we players after rounds one and two, that is 10 total.

Dickerson
Humphrey
Myers
Ruiz
Bradbury
Jenkins
McCoy
Ragnow
Price
Pocic

8 of those are starters. You can try to diminish this with where they start, but complaining that a player is a top player at another position is a special type of complaining. Humphrey, Myers, Ruiz, Jenkins, McCoy, and Ragnow are all probably better than any interior player we have outside of Hudson. So, 6 of 10 would be arguably our best interior lineman. Dickerson was coming off injury so it is a bit early and while BRadbury isn't good, he is better than Pugh playing C. We are also considering signing Price so that tells you how good our other options are. End of story is that drafting a C who is given a 1st or 2nd round grade is a pretty damn good way to find a starting lineman.

Ruiz is awful, but I agree with you otherwise.

I think, but I'm not sure, what Brit is saying is you can find a good starting OL by drafting a C in the first two rounds but not a good starting C by drafting one. Draft a C & get a G but not draft a C & get a C.

Hop and Pugh restructured their respective contracts and was front-loaded into a bonus. The restructuring theory doesn’t make sense. I personally think the passion isn’t there anymore. He never wanted to come here.

I'm not diminishing it. The topic is starting centres. Most of them can't did place a much older vet so are playing G.

If we had a discussion about best outside receivers drafted would you include guys playing slot just because they played outside in college?

I saw somewhere that Hudson may have been thinking about retiring for months and the front office was aware. If that's true, it really sucks that they were not proactive having a plan B.
