CALGARY - Coyotes center Jeremy Roenick wants to be dealt to a team in playoff contention before Tuesday's NHL trade deadline.
Roenick hinted that the Coyotes probably wouldn't be able to trade him because hasn't been given opportunity to showcase his skills.
“I would like to go to another team to try to get back into the playoffs and feel that energy again,” Roenick said after Monday's morning skate. “But I question whether someone's going to take a chance on someone who has been buried on the fourth line for half the year and is a 10-minute (per game) player. I don't know if that's going to pan out. It's unfortunate … I know I can still play and do some really good things for a team that needs a little physicality or someone to work hard, but I don't expect anything.”
The likelihood Roenick gets traded is slim.
Asked if he'd retire if he didn't get traded, Roenick, who is nine goals shy of 500 for his career, said no.
"I'm going to be here because I think it's important for me to help the young guys," Roenick said. "I think it's really important that they have a guy like me around to give them advice and keep their spirits up and tell them what they're doing wrong. I think that’s really important and I'll relish that opportunity.”
