I guess the guy is a real tool at Wheeling Downs Casino in WVA.I was talking to some dealers there and they absolutely hate him.He comes in all the time and is an ass to everyone. He won't sign any autographs, and i can't say i blame him there, but the guy never, NEVER, tips the dealers. Hell, if i hit a blackjack ,i'll give the dealer a buck chip. But, i guess Benny can't spare the dollar. I hear he is still bitter that OSU never recruited him and i'm not making that up. I saw a Pitts reporter on ESPN and it sounds like he's not too well liked by his teammates either and is still vey immature. Talked about snubbing Whiz last year as an example of his immaturity.

Like I said in another post, you can get into the guy's head. He was clearly rattled by Whis' suggestion that Whis was at least partially responsible for Ben's quick success and growth. Roth BRISTLED at that suggestion and reiterated he and only he was responsible for his own success. Then he went out and laid an egg in a game in which his team was somewhat heavily favored against Arizona.

All second hand information. Maybe the guy was a prick to him, like begging for a autograph or something.

I have a friend who is a Steeler fan and he went to the first game at UOP Stadium. He said EVERY Steeler was in the lobby, meeting fans, signing autographs. The ONLY big name who didn't? Big Ben. He said he saw him the first day and he brushed off some fans. The second day he saw him sneaking in the back door of the hotel they were staying at.

The O-Line for Pittsburgh is big, but has had some trouble pass blocking. They can be beat, so let's hope Clancy has more "Scientist" than "Mad" in his game plan. THe next part is that when you get near him, you have to bring him down. Ben is one of those slippery QBs. You either need to hit him so hard he remembers, or grab on and hold his arm to keep him from flipping it away!

I've heard things off and on about him. Are any of them true? From who's perspective? Who knows.

However, i think that he is pretty well respected in the locker room.

I don't like any athlete to be disrespectful to fans. I would sign every autograph and greet every fan. I may not be as forth coming if I am eating dinner or out with my family, that is where the fans need to return the respect.

I see people out and about every once in a while, i'm not really a celebrity ***** and run up to them or even really acknowledge them. They're just people.

Yeah you can't really take second hand info as gods word, especially when it's about a person with a celebrity status, it all gets blown way out of proportion...just like it probably did with Boldin and the whole ordeal with him not celebrating with his teammates long enough after they won.

Everybody wants to shove these guys into the limelight and are then surprised when they occasionally expose that they have human emotions. I'm sure Ben was just caught on a day when he just wanted to relax and not be hounded by ton of people all wanting to get an autograph and have a special moment with him.

I don't know about anyone else, but I myself would HATE to be a celebrity in any way. The money may be nice, but I like my privacy too much lol.

Not to get off topic, but there are plenty of celebrities that are able to have the money and the privacy.

Celebs that are in the limelight all the time, do that on purpose. No matter what they say, they are finding the cameras on purpose.

It seems anybody who is around enough pro athletes is going to have a story about how X player treated them poorly. I don't take a whole lot of stock in second hand information.

With that being said though I've NEVER heard any mention of bad behavior (not tipping), or not signing autographs in regards to Kurt Warner.

why would it be BS.What do the dealers have to gain by trashing him? If it was just one dealer, i could see it. But every dealer(about 6 or 7) i talked to kind of had the same reaction. I don't get why it's so hard to believe. Hell, his own OL supposedly doesn't like him that much.

The dealers could've just as easily said he was great guy and great tipper. Of course, i wouldn't have posted that :D.

Ive heard "sounds as" and "supposedly" used in comments relating to the character of Ben Rothlisberger. When those words are injected one should just ignore the messenger because all that becomes is speculation or conjecture.

Those seeds fell helplessly to stone..........drum up something else of substance.

i SUPPOSE that wouldn't be your response if it was something SUPPOSEDLY good about benny. Too bad there aren't too many stories like that around.

There are plenty of good stories about Ben, but I would doubt that anybody living outside of Pittsburgh or anyone who is not a Steeler fan would not hear about them much because, well, they are not really looking or paying attention to positive things said about another QB.

He helps with a number of charities, including one in his name that helps communities in need of police dogs and funding get them. You say his OL doesn't even like him, yet he took them all on a trip to Chicago about a month ago for one of their birthdays (for the life of me I can't think of whose b-day it was right now). Whenever the team is interviewed they have nothing but good things to say about him, so I don't know where anyone gets off saying that the team hates him.

I'm sure he's prone to have "off" days (like all humans are) and is not overly nice, or maybe sometimes gets a little hotheated, but to judge another person because of that, especially when it's second hand info, is just being gossipy IMO.

I didn't know you were supposed to tip dealers. So I'll file that away, but I'm surprised. Their job is to take your money, why would I help any more then I have?

A brief list of people I tip:
Servers at restaurants
Barbers (stylists, whatever they call themselves)
Valet (ha! I just knew this to be true, don't think I've ever been to a place that has one)
Bellhop (again, heard not had)
Politicians

I can't think of anyone else, but now I'm worried I'm stiffing someone.

the thing about his OL was from a Pittsburgh writer. I can't remember the guy's name. Not that makes it factual but he was supposedly some "insider".

Why does it matter.............? Michael Jordan wasnt the most likeable character either. He assaulted Kerr in practice. Kareem wasnt hailed for his benevolent character with the Lakers.

Folks have to understand and grasp the reality that athletes are humans........they wont be perfect and they arent programmable like robots. Some just dont do well with too much attention cast their way. I personally hate the spotlight and often just wanna be alone. Doesnt make me a bad person.........just makes me private. Athletes deserve privacy at times.

:yeahthat:
If Adrian Wilson sacks Ben is he going to yell in his ear, "Tip your dealer, and always remember to tip your waiters and waitresses!"

That will throw Ben's game off.
